Chapter twenty two
Randolf had been sleeping when they came for him. The sound of his chamber door slamming open jolted him awake. Three powerful demons stood in his doorway, their eyes glowing in the darkness.
"What is the meaning of this?" Randolf demanded, sitting up in his bed. He was part of the demon royal court, after all. These guards had no right to enter his private chambers without permission.
"Lord Elrien commands your presence," one of the demons said coldly.
"At this hour? Tell his lordship I will see him in the morning," Randolf replied haughtily. "I'm not some common servant to be summoned in the middle of the night."
The demons exchanged glances. Then, without warning, they seized him.
"How dare you!" Randolf struggled as they dragged him from his bed. "Do you know who I am? I'll have you all executed for this!"
