Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: To Save the Hero, Things Spin Out of Control

 LUCAS BLAKE

Daisy must have heard everything and just agreed to help me save my ego from Clara. She is wearing a simple yet stylish dress, but she has changed a lot. Her features still show the same face, of course. With just a light application of makeup. So light, in fact, that even I can't tell she's wearing any. She looks great. Her hair is in a messy bun, just like how she used to tie it when we were always together, but it makes her look attractive; it suits her.

I slide the ring I plan to use for proposing a marriage contract onto her left finger when we meet in the evening.

She looks surprised but quickly adjusts to the atmosphere.

"Darling, let's go. I think I'm hungry, you know?"

She gives me a knowing look and touches her belly, signaling that the baby is hungry. Clara glances at her belly in shock.

"Sorry for your loss. He must have wanted a family to settle down with, not you."

"I mean a baby! Oh, Mrs. Past or whatever. Darling, you really had bad taste back then. What kind of taste did you have? I didn't say she isn't pretty and gorgeous, but her attitude is that of a dog. Now I can tell she's an animal."

"What did you just say? How dare you? You will regret this."

Clara is taken aback as Daisy approaches her.

"Don't be too full of yourself, Clara. If you have problems after breaking up with my man, that's your.... Oh, you're engaged? But why are you still barking at the wrong tree? Hold on; it seems you're the one who can't move on yet. Mrs. Past, you're engaged, and so are we," Daisy said. She took my hand and raised hers, showing Clara that we are both wearing wedding rings. "My husband is not a cheater; he doesn't need you anymore. So back off," she said, as if she could see right through me.

"You can see that you're not the only one wearing a ring. I am too, and so is my husband."

"Your… your wife?" Clara said, smiling sweetly.

"Yes. Do you need proof? I can show you our marriage certificate. No, you don't have to worry. You're just an ex-girlfriend who turned him back into an honest and loving man. Let's get going, darling. I'm really, really hungry." She grabbed my hand and dragged me into the elevator. Even Simon seemed surprised by her actions. Is she revealing her feelings for me this way? The elevator closed, leaving Clara standing there in shock, speechless.

"Holy moly!" she exclaimed, calming her chest as she glanced at me, blushing, then looking away.

"I'm sorry; I had no choice but to act like that. She came here to embarrass me, but thankfully, I saw you."

"It's okay; that's not a problem. I intended to help you anyway. I'm sorry to say this, but she has never changed; her attitude makes me dislike her," I replied.

 "It's okay."

"Oh, that reminds me, your ring," she said, raising her hand as if to take it off.

 "Wait," I hesitated.

 "What?"

 "No… Nothing."

She removed the ring from her finger and handed it to me, but it fell. As I bent down to pick it up, my hand brushed against hers. We stared at each other.

 "I'm sorry," she said.

"It was a mistake," I responded.

A long tension hung between us, but eventually, it broke.

"Are you the CEO of this company?" she asked.

 "Yes."

"Did you know I'm working here?"

"Yes, I do. It's just that I didn't want you to feel uncomfortable. If the other workers here knew we knew each other, they might make your job difficult or dislike you. That's why I'm avoiding the situation. It's the reason we've never crossed paths. I'm sorry," I explained.

 "It's okay; I understand."

 The elevator doors opened.

"I will come to pick you up at 7 PM."

"Okay, see you then," she said, stepping out.

Simon, please conduct a background check on her and inform me of her current status. And prepare a gold necklace as a gift.

 "Ok Sir"

 DAISY LORNE

What just happened? On my birthday? Oh my goodness. What was I thinking at that moment? As I reached my workstation, I never could have imagined it. My hand brushed against Lucas's hand. I could still feel the warmth. I was feeling flushed; oh my goodness.

One of the workers shot me a cold glare. Of course, this isn't the first time I've noticed that only a few of them are kind to me.

"Daisy! Hey, Daisy!" Sandra, my partner sitting beside me, snapped her fingers in front of my face. I sighed and took the coffee she handed me. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. But don't overthink things at work, or you'll get scolded."

Just then, my phone rang. It was Mira calling.

"Sorry to disturb you. Did you see the headline that's going around right now?" she asked.

 "No, I haven't. I'll check it later."

"You have to! It turns out Lucas is the CEO of Ray Tech as well. Did you know about this?"

 "I just found out today."

The headline featured his ex-girlfriend trying to embarrass him, but she was shocked to find out he's already married. And on top of that, his wife is pregnant. The internet is buzzing right now. People are asking, 'Who is this mysterious woman?' and there's already a hashtag: #secretwife #mysteriouswoman #hiddenwifeoftheceo. The picture of the woman only shows her back, so no one can see her face.

"You know what, Mira? I'll call you back when I get home."

 "Okay."

 "Bye."

What have I gotten myself into?

"I'm done for…" I said aloud. Everyone stared at me. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry," I apologized.

On my way home, I decided to call Mira again.

You sound suspicious," she said. "Are you hiding something from me?
