As soon as Alex Ray walked downstairs, Deadpool rushed over excitedly.
He twirled like a child in a sugar rush, shouting, "Alex! You had such an insane time yesterday and didn't invite me? A parallel universe! I want to see what I look like over there. Am I even more handsome than me?"
Alex shook his head helplessly.
Alex knew full well there wasn't just one Deadpool in the multiverseâthere were dozens of strange, colorful versions.
He vaguely remembered a universe where Deadpool had no disfigurement and was actually a bona fide heartthrob, but he couldn't recall exactly which one.
As soon as Deadpool heard "making money," he perked up and threw an arm around Alex's shoulder with a gleeful grin. "Hey, brother, it's all thanks to you. I made a clean two hundred million dollars yesterday! Time to hit the clubs again."
"When are we going on a multiverse adventure?" Deadpool asked eagerly.
"We'll need to figure out how to access one first. Quit nagging. Hereâeat this. It might help your face."
Alex tossed him a small green beanâDeadpool caught it and squinted skeptically.
"This little thing? You're telling me this fixes my face? Not poison or something?"
Alex rolled his eyes. "Poison wouldn't kill a cockroach like you. Just eat it. I promise, it'll help."
Deadpool clutched the Senzu Bean with theatrical romance. "If it's from you, I'd eat poison without hesitation."
He popped it in his mouth and swallowed.
Within seconds, the bean's magic went to work. The scars and pockmarks on Deadpool's face began to smooth out. His skin turned clear and supple.
"Holy hell!" he shouted, spinning toward the mirror. "I'm hot again!"
He sprinted outside and paraded along the street, striking poses and calling to passersby, "Hey! Am I handsome?!"
Unfortunately, most of the locals mistook him for a pervert and beat him senseless.
Later, a thoroughly bruised but very satisfied Deadpool limped back inside, grinning. "Thanks, man," he said sincerely.
But Alex's smile faded. His expression darkened.
He noticed Deadpool's face slowly beginning to deform againâthe bumps returning one by one.
Alex immediately guessed why: Deadpool's accelerated healing factor and the cancer cells in his body were rejecting each other again. The Senzu Bean could only temporarily mend the damageâit wasn't a cure.
Deadpool felt it too. His grin faltered, the joy draining from his eyes.
"I guess I'll turn ugly again," he said quietly. "But... at least I was happy, even just for a little while."
There was a bitter weight in his voice, a pain that humor couldn't mask.
It was strange. The man known for cracking jokes while decapitating mercenaries actually cared about his looks.
Yet even now, he forced a smile.
He turned to leave.
Alex quickly stopped him. "Wait. Don't go. I have something else. This one might actually work."
His voice was calm, firm, resoluteâas if to tell Deadpool he'd never let him suffer alone.
Deadpool chuckled nervously. "Come on, Lord Deadpool is still the most handsome devil, even like this. I've been this way for yearsâI'm used to it. No need to pity me."
He played it off with humor, but the fear in his eyes was unmistakable.
Alex pulled out the Horse Talisman and handed it over.
Deadpool turned it over in his palm, confused. "How's this thing work?"
"Try squeezing on it," Alex said dryly. "It's a healing talisman. Clears all illnesses. But you'll need to carry it with you, always."
Deadpool stared at the charm in disbelief.
This couldn't be real... right?
Then the talisman lit upâan ethereal glow beamed out from its center.
A moment later, his skin cleared againâcompletely. His face returned to its original state, the cancer cells purged from his body.
Deadpool stood frozen, staring into the mirror. No jumping around this time. No gags.
Just silence.
He gently touched his face, his expression unreadableâcaught between disbelief and fear.
Was it real? Would it last?
Alex sat on the couch behind him, watching silently. He understood the war raging in Deadpool's heart.
Neither of them said a word. The moment was too big.
Minutes passed.
Then half an hour.
Still no change.
Finally, Deadpool breathedâdeep and shaky.
It was real. His skin was still smooth. His body felt clean.
The monster was gone.
He turned toward Alex, eyes shimmering. "This⊠this must be worth a fortune."
He clutched the talisman like it was made of diamond.
Alex shrugged. "Keep it. There's only one in the world. But it's not as valuable as family."
Deadpool blinked, stunned. Then his voice trembled: "Thank you, brother. From now on, my life belongs to you."
No jokes. No sarcasm. Just pure, heartfelt gratitude.
Deadpoolâalways the clown, always the jesterâhad finally dropped the act.
He had always used humor to hide his pain, but now he stood naked in his truth. Grateful. Vulnerable. Free.
Everything had changed. He was whole again.
"Congratulations to the host. Wade Winston Wilson's favorability has increased to four stars."
"Congratulations to the host. Wade Winston Wilson..."
"Congratulations to the host. Favorability now maxed out."
Alex smiled to himself.
He was truly happy for Deadpool. This wasn't a scripted sceneâit was real. Life-changing.
He couldn't imagine living with Deadpool's former face. If he had to go through thatâno matter how indestructible he wasâhe might've chosen to die. But dying wasn't even an option.
Deadpool's old life had been worse than death.
But now, he was family.
And if Alex ever traveled to another universe, Deadpool would definitely be going with him. A social genius like him was too valuable to leave behind.
Just then, Miles Morales came downstairs.
"Alex," he called out, "you want to go pick up girls with me tonight? My treatâconsider it a thank-you."
Deadpool had returned to his usual irreverent self. Whatever emotion Alex had felt just moments before vanished in an instant.
And with that, Alex immediately wanted him gone again.
Ignoring Deadpool, Alex turned to Miles and said, "Eat up. We've got somewhere to be. I'm taking you to see someone who might help you get home."
Miles looked intrigued. "Who?"
"A playboy," Alex said flatly, already walking away.
