Chapter 5 - The new click

The day had gone by smoothly. Terri and Eve had many things in common. Eve also seemed easy to talk to. It was finally lunch time. Terri walked with Eve to the cafeteria.

"I normally just grab my food then head back to my dorm to eat and relax." Terri told Eve as they crossed into the cafeteria. She continued to the line with the other students who had just entered. A few told Terri hello or waved.

"Your really popular." Eve stated.

Terri actually laughed out loud. "No, I have a small group of friends from creative writing club, but most of them are juniors and seniors. They wouldn't be caught dead hanging out with me outside of club." Terri told Eve as she grabbed an apple and a garden salad.

"Do you always eat so healthy?" Eve asked while grabbing a bag of chips and a chicken sandwich.

"Usually, yes, but I do indulge in steak or lobster when I can afford it." Terri said with a laugh and shrugged. Terri grabbed a bottle of water. She noticed Eve grabbed a Mt. Dew.

"Hopefully, you will influence me to eat better." Eve replied looking down at her tray.

The girls paid for their food then headed out into the sitting area. They both looked around for an empty table. Terri saw Andrew all the way across the room waving his arms at them. When he caught Terri's eye, he motioned for them to come sit at his table. Terri hoped that Eve wouldn't notice.

"Andy is waving us over. Let's go sit with him." Eve moved around Terri and headed toward Andy's table across the cafeteria. Terri followed reluctantly.

Terri kept her gaze down. She was a bit embarrassed that Andrew had been in her room this morning watching her sleep. She arrived at the table after Eve. Eve had taken the chair next to a boy with glasses which left the only other chair that was next to Andrew.

Andrew rose and pulled out the chair for Terri with a smirk. "For you my lady." Andrew motioned for her to sit.

"Thanks," Terri replied. She put her tray down then sat in the chair. She heard Andy inhale deeply. Andy pushed her chair in after she sat.

Andrew proceeded to sit and scoot his chair closer to Terri. He dropped his arm over the back of her chair. "These are the girls I was telling you about." He said to his friends. "This is Terri and that's Eve." He pointed to each girl in turn.

"And what are your friends names?" Eve asked. She looked very intrigued and batted her eyelashes at the other boys at the table.

Andrew pointed at the boy with the glasses sitting next to her. "That's Phillip, he goes by Phil." The boy gave a little wave and a grin. "Next to him is Charlie, then Carter, their twins in case you couldn't tell. Then, on my right here is Tanner. He's my kid brother."

Tanner rolled his eyes.

"He's in our English class." Eve told everyone.

"You'll have to watch out for him. He can be a trouble maker." Andy gave Tanner a look that said you better not say a word. Tanner just looked annoyed and kept eating.

"Nice to meet all of you." Eve said then nudged Terri to speak.

Terri looked at Eve. Eve raised her eyebrows.

"Oh, yeah, nice to meet you." Terri said then started opening her salad to begin eating. She could feel Andy starring at her. She could also feel heat from his arm even though it wasn't actually touching her.

"So what grades are all of you in?" Eve asked. She seemed to have forgotten all about her lunch taking interest in the boys at the table.

"I'm a senior. Carter, Charlie, and Andy are juniors. Tanner is a sophomore like you two." Phil replied to her with a smile. He seemed to be enjoying Eve's attention. "I am the president of the student body and I tutor for all the Science classes."

"Well, you just became my new best friend then." Eve told him smiling and batting her eyelashes. "I'm terrible at Science. Do you have a session for Biology? Terri and I might be interested." Eve nudged Terri again.

Terri looked up from her salad. She had been focusing on eating and trying to maintain a distance between herself and Andrew with him insisting on being so close.

"I'm a good student in Science. Math is my difficult subject." Terri replied looking back down at her salad.

This made Andy perk right up. "Well, I happen to be one of the tutors for the Math department. " He told her with a huge grin not just a smirk this time.

"I didn't really take you for smart." Terri replied glancing over at him.

"More like a smart-ass." Tanner said laughing a little.

This made Cater laugh as well. "Andy is the top of our class." He stated.

"Yeah he basically doesn't even have to study at all and gets perfect scores."Charlie said speaking for the first time since Terri had sat down. He had been busy devouring his double cheeseburger and fries.

Andy's shot him a look as if to say shut up stupid. "I'm not that smart, just good at Math." He said with a nervous look.

"Why don't you want people to know your smart?" Eve asked and Terri looked up at him as well.

Andrew moved his arm from behind Terri and fidgeted with his food. There was silence for a moment.

"He doesn't want Terri to know he is a nerd and hopeless romantic." Tanner said chuckling with a evil grin. "Ouch!" He exclaimed after Andrew had stepped hard on his foot under the table. "What was that for?"

"For you to shut up." Andy said to his brother. Andy looked down at his tray, then at his watch. He abruptly got up and grabbed his bag. He grabbed his tray and headed to the trash then stormed out of the cafeteria.

"Well that was awkward. " Carter said. The whole table other than Terri burst into laughter.

"He's got it real bad." Phil said.

Terri rose and quietly gathered her belongings. She picked up her tray.

"You don't have to leave. We were just teasing Andy." Tanner told her.

"It's fine. Eve, I'll see you at the meeting." Terri picked up her tray before exiting to the trashcan then heading out of the cafeteria.
