It was just dawn.
Renya was suddenly awakened from his dream, cold sweat soaking his back.
His chest heaved violently, and his eyes still betrayed both terror and doubt.
"That dream again…" Renya said uncertainly, murmuring, "What exactly is that place?"
In that eerie dream, he found himself in a completely unfamiliar location.
A pungent smell of chemicals filled the air. He lay on a cold experimental table, his arms and legs inexplicably bound by some apparatus, rendering him unable to move.
Strange red light flickered on the laboratory walls, and various bizarrely shaped specimens were arranged about, emitting a faint, nauseating odor.
A fellow in a white lab coat circled around him continuously, his face indistinct to Renya for some unknown reason.
That man held a notebook, seemingly recording something; every action made Renya feel utterly uncomfortable—as if he were a lamb awaiting slaughter, left entirely at the mercy of others for study and manipulation.
"Is this really my 'cheat'?" Renya wondered aloud.
In many of the novels he had read before his transmigration, some protagonists indeed possessed a cheat concerning dreams.
For example, one protagonist dreamed of being chased by different monsters for over ten years, only to later learn that it was his cheat!
Thinking of this, Renya decided to check if anything about himself had changed.
After scrutinizing himself for quite some time, he found nothing.
"Could it be… that I must act within the dream?" Renya mused, frowning in deep thought.
He planned to see if he could discover anything in his dreams tonight.
With that thought in mind, Renya left his room and, after having breakfast, began his morning training.
The morning training was the same as yesterday: first refining his chakra, and then engaging in physical training.
While Renya was absorbed in refining his chakra in the courtyard, a voice suddenly rang out at the main gate.
"Little one, you're so diligent, aren't you?"
Hearing the sound, Renya opened his eyes and looked curiously toward the source.
He saw a red-haired woman standing at the gate. Her long red hair was tied into two bun-like ponytails, with talisman-like ornaments embellishing her hair buns.
A striking purple diamond-shaped mark adorned her forehead, and her gaze was gentle.
Every gesture she made exuded an air of elegance.
Renya recognized her immediately—wasn't this none other than Senju Hashirama's wife, Uzumaki Mito?
Why had she come here?
Although Renya recognized Mito's identity, he pretended not to know and asked in confusion:
"Who are you?"
Uzumaki Mito smiled softly. With light, graceful steps she approached Renya, then squatted down to look him straight in the eyes and spoke gently:
"I am Tobirama's sister-in-law. I heard that he adopted a Uchiha child, so I came to take a look… You must be the child adopted by Tobirama, right?"
For some reason, Renya always felt that Uzumaki Mito could see right through his inner thoughts, and this sensation made him very uneasy.
Instinctively, he took a step back to put some distance between them and said,
"That's right, I am the Uchiha adopted by White-haired old man."
At these words, Mito paused, covering her mouth with a soft chuckle, "Why do you call Tobirama 'White-haired old man'?"
Renya pouted and explained, "That guy doesn't like me… and, coincidentally, I don't like him either… ."
Mito laughed and shook her head, "You really are a stubborn little brat."
In truth, she couldn't understand what scheme Hashirama was hatching… Why insist on letting Tobirama adopt a Uchiha child?
It was almost common knowledge that Senju Tobirama despised the Uchiha clan.
Because of that, Tobirama had often run home in tears, complaining about all the irritating things Renya did.
Having heard all this with curiosity, Mito decided to come and see for herself just how troublesome this brat was, as described by Tobirama.
After a short while together, she realized that Tobirama was just spouting nonsense.
Although Renya could be a bit arrogant, he certainly wasn't unbearable; most likely, it was simply Tobirama's biased view against the Uchiha, done deliberately.
The intention was clear—nothing more than trying to send Renya back.
With that thought, Mito reached out her hand as if to pat Renya's head—but Renya dodged it.
Startled, she was taken aback, not expecting Renya to avoid her touch.
"Don't go messing with my head," Renya said. "Don't you know that a man's head is off-limits?"
Mito was momentarily stunned, not having expected Renya to speak in that manner.
She laughed lightly, "Alright, alright, Auntie won't touch you."
"That's more like it." Renya folded his arms, his expression proudly defiant.
As a proud Uchiha, how could he possibly allow others to touch his head? If word of this got out, wouldn't Uchiha Renya lose face?!
"By the way, I haven't asked your name yet," Mito suddenly recalled, realizing she had neglected to inquire.
"My name is Uchiha Renya," Renya replied, looking at Mito. "And you?"
Mito smiled gently, "Little Renya, my name is Uzumaki Mito."
Renya nodded in acknowledgment.
"Uzumaki Mito, but I still have to train."
Renya then began shooing her away; he had no time for idle chit-chat now—he needed to get stronger as quickly as possible.
With that, he sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, and began refining his chakra.
Seeing this, Mito's pretty face filled with astonishment—she hadn't expected Renya to shoo her off so abruptly.
"What an interesting little brat," Mito remarked with intrigue.
At last, she understood why Tobirama had come complaining—Renya truly was not like ordinary children.
This meant Tobirama was in for a rough time.
Watching Renya train so diligently, she slowly stood up and left the courtyard.
After Mito departed, Renya opened his eyes and gazed thoughtfully in the direction of her retreat.
...
Senju Hashirama's Residence
"Big brother, I'm begging you, can you please send that child away?" Senju Tobirama pleaded.
Senju Tobirama—renowned for his calm and composed demeanor—had now shown such an abject and humble side.
If anyone who knew him well were to see this, they would be utterly astonished.
Lately, the mere thought of having an Uchiha brat in the house had made everything he did feel off.
"Tobirama, you must learn to be tolerant and accepting," Senju Hashirama said earnestly.
He truly hoped that his younger brother could get along harmoniously with Renya, perhaps even forging a bond.
That way, maybe Tobirama would eventually come to cease his disdain for the Uchiha.
Senju Tobirama: "…"
He had rushed here as soon as he woke up, all in the hope that big brother might retract his decision, but no matter what he said, big brother remained unmoved.
At that moment, Uzumaki Mito stepped into the room.
Seeing her, Senju Tobirama quickly looked to Mito for help and pleaded,
"Sister-in-law, please try to persuade Hashirama!"
Since persuading big brother himself had proven futile, he now turned to his sister-in-law.
In family matters, it always depends on the authority of the sister-in-law; once she speaks, big brother is powerless and can only obediently agree!
But what Mito said next left Senju Tobirama utterly dumbfounded.
"Tobirama, I've seen that child Renya. I believe Hashirama is right—make an effort to get along with that child."
"Hahaha, Mito is right!" Senju Hashirama said with a smile.
Senju Tobirama: "???"
He never expected it to turn out this way.
For a moment, he felt as though the sky had fallen.
Senju Tobirama didn't even know how he ended up leaving.
Big brother and sister-in-law, in perfect harmony, had unanimously decided that Renya should be raised under their care until he came of age.
Just the thought of his future life made Senju Tobirama feel faint.
"What a joke!"
