Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: The Establishment of the Ninja Academy

Spring passed, and autumn came.

It had already been a year since Renya arrived at the Senju compound.

Over the past year, Renya had maintained a highly disciplined routine, spending nearly every day training.

One could say he was either training—or on the way to training.

Even Senju Tobirama couldn't help but praise Renya's dedication to his training.

Though, Renya had taken quite a few detours in his training...

Senju Tobirama often watched Renya's training, but he never had the intention of offering guidance.

Renya never asked Tobirama for help either.

Since Tobirama wouldn't speak up, Renya wasn't about to go begging.

The Uchiha were always a proud clan, and Renya was no exception.

Whenever he hit a real obstacle, he would go to the orphanage and ask the director.

The director had at least been a Jōnin during the Warring States Period.

After a year of arduous training, Renya had reached the level of a Genin.

A seven-year-old Genin was already considered a genius even among the Uchiha.

But he didn't become smug; instead, he trained even harder.

He knew full well that his current strength wasn't enough. If he wanted to survive in the shinobi world, he at least had to become a Jōnin.

Ever since he transmigrated, Renya would occasionally dream of being inside a laboratory.

Each time, his body couldn't move, and he couldn't remember what exactly had happened.

He was confused. Was this supposed to be his cheat?

At first, he had wanted to explore the secrets of the lab in his dreams.

But no matter how hard he tried, his body wouldn't move an inch. He couldn't even speak.

As time went on, he started to give up.

But recently, the dreams had been coming more frequently.

At first, it was once or twice a week. Then it became once or twice every half month. Now it was every two days.

This troubled Renya greatly.

"What the hell do these dreams mean?"

A whole year had passed, and he still hadn't figured out whether the dream was his cheat or not.

He shook his head. Since he couldn't figure it out, so be it. Some things couldn't be forced—when the time came, he would understand...

With that thought, he began today's training.

Renya was dressed in black, standing tall and straight like a pine tree.

Senju Tobirama wasn't wrong—drinking milk really did help with development.

In just a year, he had grown from a 120 cm little brat to a 130 cm one.

He activated the mechanical device in the courtyard. It was a shuriken launcher, commonly used for evasion training.

Renya stared intently at the shuriken launcher in front of him, not daring to be the slightest bit careless.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

As the launcher activated, a stream of shuriken shot toward him at high speed.

Renya reacted quickly, his body as agile as a leopard—sidestepping, twisting, leaping—all in one seamless motion.

His jet-black hair flew wildly, his clothes flapped sharply with each movement, and every dodge was precise, brushing past the razor-sharp shuriken.

As the training continued, the frequency of shuriken increased, and their trajectories grew more erratic.

Renya's breathing gradually became labored, and large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.

His eyes and body were beginning to lag behind the shuriken's speed; his movements were no longer as fluid and natural, and each dodge became more difficult.

He stumbled and nearly got hit by a shuriken fired from a tricky angle.

When the launcher had finally emptied its supply, Renya collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath.

"If I had awakened the Sharingan, this wouldn't be so hard..." Renya muttered with a bit of regret.

The most crucial factor in awakening the Uchiha's Sharingan was emotional stimulation.

When an Uchiha truly understood the essence of "love," and then experienced the pain of losing that "love," their emotions would transform into hatred even stronger than before.

Or in situations of extreme danger—life and death crises—a surge of special chakra would flood the brain and affect the optic nerves, causing the eyes to transform and awaken the Sharingan.

This was why the Uchiha were known as the "Clan of Love."

Though Renya understood the principles behind awakening the Sharingan, actually doing it was far from easy.

Reaching that level of emotional fluctuation wasn't something that could be forced.

If it were that easy, every Uchiha would be walking around with a fully awakened three-tomoe Sharingan.

They would've wiped out the Senju and unified the shinobi world by now!

In truth, the rate of awakening among Uchiha was very low—most of them would never awaken the Sharingan in their entire lives.

And even for those who did, evolving from one tomoe to three required constant battle experience and intense emotional stimulation, combined with increasing chakra control and mastery over their dōjutsu.

Renya sighed helplessly.

"Who knows how long I'll have to wait to awaken the Sharingan…"

...

After finishing his morning training, Renya began preparing lunch.

Lately, Senju Tobirama had been so busy with affairs that he rarely came home for lunch.

Renya wasn't sure if Tobirama would be back today, but he still cooked enough for two people.

"Looks like the ninja academy will be established soon."

Renya knew Tobirama had been busy planning the creation of the ninja academy lately.

He had seen the draft Tobirama had left on the table some time ago.

It included layout and design plans, as well as a detailed curriculum and education strategy.

Tobirama had even personally selected a group of outstanding ninja to serve as instructors at the academy. They would be responsible for teaching ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu.

At this point, Tobirama was already in the process of building the academy. It wouldn't be long before the Shinobi Academy was officially born.

"Schooling... such a pain."

In his previous life, Renya had studied for over ten years. Just hearing the word "school" made his whole body uncomfortable—he had a psychological shadow from it.

Just then, Tobirama walked into the house looking exhausted.

He sat down at the table, picked up the chopsticks, and began eating heartily.

He had been swamped with work surrounding the academy and barely had time to eat, but now the tasks were finally wrapping up.

He had already sent his older brother to start construction. At his brother's pace, the job would be done in no more than two days.

After that, the school could begin enrolling students.

Currently, almost all ninja in Konoha were from clans. Tobirama's goal in founding the academy was to break down the barriers between clans and reorient the ninja's loyalty toward the village instead of their family.

The academy wouldn't just train large numbers of Genin and Chūnin for Konoha—it would also provide opportunities for talented and capable civilian ninja.

It was, without exaggeration, a completely beneficial endeavor.

There was no denying it—Tobirama had a brilliant political mind. He was a formidable statesman.

With the school nearing completion, Tobirama was in high spirits. In a rare moment, he took the initiative to speak to Renya:

"Hey, brat, the ninja academy will open in a few days. I've already signed you up. Make sure to attend."

"Clatter!" The chopsticks fell to the floor.

Renya stared at Tobirama in disbelief and exclaimed, "You signed me up?!"

He had been planning to avoid school altogether. He hadn't expected this old man to go behind his back and register him!

Tobirama nodded.

"That's right. You're at the age to be in school. How could you just stay home all day?"

Renya: "Thanks a lot!"

"You're welcome."

"…"

Tobirama's real reason was that he wanted Renya to form bonds with kids his own age at school.

That way, he'd be easier to control.

After all, people with strong bonds were less likely to make extreme decisions.
