Chapter 6 - Time to say Goodbye

Right after they got out the house I asked my parents with a childish voice "Mom, Dad, what did that strange man mean earlier by mana reserves? ".

Father was the one who answered "Mana reserves are something every creature has, even animals, it's just that most people have reserves so small that they are incapable to activate them and use magic, for example in our family only your sister has reserves big enough".

Looking at my sister I began to understand why she hated me, my mother soon gave me the answer that I already thought "she was destined to go in one of the many magic school of lower rank of the near cities, but they are too expensive, but you have nothing to worry about, us adults will find a solution for her".

The following days passed slowly, I for once tried to be friendly to my sister, she gave me that no look treatment as always, and play with the twins with a sort of cardboard game very damaged.

Soon the third day came and the time to say Goodbye came with it, I smiled at my parents seeing the pain they were feeling and the resolution that broughtthem to that decision, the twins were obviously crying out loud not wanting me to leave, my sister also seemed slightly sad for that, maybe I was only imagining things, but her glaze seemed to soft a little bit.

The door opened with a creaking sound, the doctor and his assistant were outside, the assistant entered inside with extreme care she took me up and carried me outside.

My mom kissed me on the forehead saying "Nyx, be good to the doctor and come back safely, please" that was one of the few time she called me by name since usually she used the sort of 'little star', 'my sweet child' etc...

I watched as the figure of my family became farther and farther, I was probably as old as my parents mentally, but at least they were a real family and not some abusive nuns, It took almost all my strengt but I waved my hand at them, I screamed "Mom, Dad, I will be back once I will be healthy!".

They heard me even if we were pretty far, and smiled, I think, my mom muttered a prayer for me and my dad quietly cried, but now it wasn't time to be sad, once the doctor heals me I will be back home.

But something seemed strange, the doctor that before was so cheerful and kind once he left the house seemed dead inside, eyes devoid of live and a slight grin that didn't anticipated anything good.

His assistant on the other hand seemed kind beyond any limit, different for her usual cold demeanour, something was amiss.

Now all that was left was to wait, hope I was just anxious and they were just a kind strange duo.
