“Certainly, my lady,” Marguerite responded with a nod.
“You need not fret over any potential disagreements between the government and the royal family.” Chloe’s smile held a trace of bitterness, causing the maid to falter, unsure of how to respond. Indeed, alliances were preferable to prevent unnecessary quarrels. However, it had dawned on Chloe that she had no reason to endure public humiliation or endanger her life merely because she had wed a duke.
