Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: More Survivors

[Congratulations. The host has created the Skill 'Flux Coat']

[Name: Flux Coat]

[Level: 1]

[Tier: Common]

[Description: Once activated, Oblivion flux wraps around any item or body parts, increasing the stats by 20%. Energy cost varies.]

Upon seeing this message, Zayden was pleasantly surprised. He never thought that using the oblivion flux to coat his hand for a few seconds would yield this kind of result. But every strength increase was accepted anyway.

At this point, most of the null in the vicinity had been cleared out. Even though a few more nulls were approaching them, they still had enough time to take a breather.

"I've finally hit level ten," Dare said with excitement as he read the system messages, and his eyes widened in realization.

"You guys contracted Constellations," he said.

Looking at the smug grin on their faces, he was sure that he was right.

"That's why we wanted it to be a surprise," Tyrel said as Zayden nodded in confirmation.

As the team was about to leave the building, they saw a group of boys walk up to them. There were about fourteen boys, with the lowest being level 1 and the highest being level 7. With them was the vice president, Aiden Cross, and the former member of their team, Lucas.

Lucas had been watching them since the beginning of the battle with the nulls, and he was shocked to his bones. When he heard that they wanted to clear the male dorm of nulls, he thought that they were crazy and that they would surely die. But seeing them today, not only alive, but stronger than before, gave him a shock

But none of that mattered. Even though he regretted running away from their group, missing his chance to grow stronger, he would still do anything to survive, even if it meant sucking up to that wimp Dare.

"What are you guys doing here?" Zayden said, an incredulous expression on his face.

One has to remember that the last time they saw this group of survivors was on apocalypse day two, and it was already the third day of the apocalypse. He thought that they would have met up with the other survivors by now.

Aiden and Lucas walked out of the group of boys. They were the two highest-level members of the group, with Aiden managing to hit level seven, whereas Lucas was at level six. From this, one could see that they only focused on surviving and not getting stronger.

And the loss of two members of their group meant that they were not doing very well.

"Well, nice to see you again," Aiden said with an amicable smile on his face as he started recounting his experience from the day before.

It turned out that after they left the male dorm, they were met with a horde of nulls. It was too much for them, and with the doors of the male dorm jammed shut, they were unable to get back into the male dorm.

Their only choice was to keep moving forward, and they finally managed to make it into the security building of this male dorm at the expense of the lives of two members of the group.

Listening to all of this, Zayden was not at all surprised. There were always going to be losses in the apocalypse. Coupled with the fact that these guys didn't yet understand that to survive the apocalypse, they had to get stronger. So they were fighting with the mentality of surviving at least to see another day, so the thought of getting stronger didn't come to mind.

"Why don't we join you guys?" Lucas suddenly asked as looks of expectation appeared on the faces of the remaining group members.

Both Darian and Tyrel frowned slightly as their impression of Lucas wasn't a good one, and it was worse for Dare. Zayden, on the other hand, was expressionless.

"What are your plans for surviving the apocalypse?" Zayden suddenly said

The rest were shocked as they hadn't thought that far ahead. They just didn't want to die. If they could see the sun the next day, they would be happy with that.

"Well, we just need to live until the military comes here to take us to a shelter," Lucas said.

Unlike the rest of the group, he seemed to already have a survival plan, but it depended on leeching off others as usual.

Hearing this, hope appeared on the faces of the survivors, making Zayden roll his eyes.

"We just need you guys to protect us, at least until the military comes to rescue us," Lucas added.

Hearing what Lucas had said, Tyrel and Dare frowned slightly. This guy was still as entitled as before.

"I think he's right."

"You guys are strong, so you should help the rest of us."

"After all, we are all human."

It seemed like the words of Lucas gave the rest of the group a little more courage as they started voicing out their opinions.

"I see no problem with that," Zayden said with a welcoming smile on his face. Confusion appeared on the faces of the rest of the team, but they decided to be quiet. Zayden seemed to know what he was doing.

"Since we're fellow humans, I'll help you all until the military comes," Zayden sai,d "but don't expect anything more than that."

The group was so happy that they managed to find a little protection that they didn't care about the words Zayden said next.

With that said, the group started heading away from the male dorm. Tyrel and Darian were at the back of the group to protect their backside from any threat, while Zayden and Dare were at the front of the group for scouting and to clear the road of any nulls.

"Where are you headed?" Aiden asked, walking beside Zayden.

"Well, since we're waiting for the military, I decided that we should wait in a larger place, like let's say the gym building," Zayden said

Aiden nodded his head as that seemed to be a reasonable reply.

Zayden, on the other hand, couldn't help but shake his head. They were waiting for the military to come and pick them up, given the state of the world at the moment.

The military had its problems to deal with. With the cosmic energy spreading to every corner of Earth, of course, some people in the military would also be turned to nulls, and the military needed to handle that first.

And after that was the fact that the rest of the states were still overrun by nulls so the military had to look for survivors in the different cities, after that, there needs to be some sort of order before the military which should have already broken up will think of coming to rescue entitled youth of one of the many colleges in the United States.

From the memories of his previous life, Zayden remembered that the first sight of the military that they saw was four months after the first apocalypse started. And that was a small team of military survivors.

But there was no need to destroy their hopes now, after all, Zayden needed people for the next stage of the apocalypse, so having them by his side wasn't a bad thing at the moment.

The orange rays of the setting sun started cascading down as Zayden looked into the sky. Most would not notice it, but Zayden did; there was some kind of transparent dome around the whole campus that was the size of a small town. It looked more like a field, blocking them from the rest of the world.

It would soon be evening, and nobody wanted to be out in the streets at night, where the world had changed so much.

"I think we should find somewhere to rest for the night," one of the boys in the team said

"You guys should wait a little longer, we'll rest when we reach the gym," Aiden said, trying to curb the panic that was starting to spread among the group of boys.

And as if confirming the words of Aiden, the group could see the gym building in the distance, like a beacon of hope in these trying times.

But of course, nothing was ever gotten so simply.

The door of the gym building was slammed shut from the inside, and there was a group of nulls directly in front of the gym building.

They were pretty high-levelled, with levels ranging from level five to nine
