Chapter 33 - A Tactical Decision to Retreat

'The lord of this region will be coming…'

Upon realizing this very likely circumstance, Kayn quickly turned his eyes back to the two elemental demons.

'I need to get out of here.'

But Kayn couldn't simply run away. Even when he regained his strength and he would be able to fly once more, Kayn couldn't simply leave.

With the two elemental demons, or rather, the wind demon present, Kayn could say goodbye to all hopes of successfully running away when the lord of the region comes.

The wind demon could just tail him from a safe distance, and Kayn couldn't do anything against the cursed, agile demon if the wind demon were committed to staying alive.

With the demon on his tail, his location would always be known, and the lord of the region would sooner or later catch up to him.

Kayn knew that he needed to take care of that first before he could even think of getting out of the place.

Kayn dismissed his ice armor, something that surprised the two elemental demons, as they didn't expect the ice demon would throw away the last defense he had just like that.

The armor was indeed full of holes, but it was still clearly useful in protecting his vital areas.

When the armor disappeared, the wounds all over Kayn's body became more visible.

The wounds and the blood themselves had long been frozen due to his nature as an ice demon, but the scars were apparent.

His icy claws were still equipped, but with a body that looked full of scars, Kayn now looked like a demon that was on the verge of death, even with his menacing ice claws.

'This is our chance.' The wind demon spared a quick glance at the earth demon as the two of them knew what they needed to do now.

They had called for the lord of the region to come, but they didn't plan to just stand there and wait things out.

They would surely be questioned by the lord of the region, but when the lord saw what happened to the fortress and hundreds of corpses strewn around the battlefield, they were sure that even they wouldn't be punished for calling him for nothing.

Not changing what had worked so far, the wind demon flew once more towards Kayn, stopping every once in a while to cast wind blades towards Kayn.

The earth demon also began to move, cautiously taking notes of every move Kayn was about to make.

Kayn had been targeting him all this time, and there was no reason for him to stop doing so.

The ice spikes already weakened him, and he couldn't afford to be hit by any more attacks of the ice attribute. He would be frozen into an ice statue if that were to happen.

But to the surprise of the two elemental demons, Kayn didn't try to kill the earth demon once more, nor did he try to get closer to attack the earth demon.

Using his icy claws that were still as sharp as ever, Kayn cut into the wall made out of ice spikes that he had created.

And instead of picking up the fallen pieces, Kayn just shoved them away as he created a path for himself to walk onto the field of ice spikes.

The wind demon was initially puzzled by this decision, but soon understood as his wind blades flew towards Kayn.

Sensing the wind blades coming towards him, Kayn threw several ice spikes from the ground before creating a path behind the tall ice spikes and hiding behind them.

The wind blade would be slightly weakened after it cut through the thrown ice spikes, while the ice spikes that Kayn used as a defensive wall negated the wind blades completely, saving Kayn from taking damage from them.

And with the number of ice spikes present around him, Kayn had no difficulty using them as walls to protect himself.

Not only did Kayn use the field of ice spikes to protect himself, but the wind demon also felt a significant movement of mana from all around the ice spikes to Kayn.

'He used the ice spikes to create an environment that is rich in ice mana… And it will definitely boost his mana regeneration even with his constricted heart.'

Just remembering how much Kayn could do with his spells, the wind demon shouted to the earth demon,

"Don't let him regenerate his mana! Raise a platform underneath his feet to get him away from the ice spikes!'

Realizing what Kayn was trying to do inside the field of ice spikes, the earth demon stopped casting earth spikes and earth walls to hinder Kayn.

He was about to cast a spell that would create a large platform of earth from beneath Kayn's feet, raising him above the ground and separating him from the ice spikes, when his eyes suddenly caught Kayn's figure leaping above the ice spikes.

The earth demon wasn't the only one who heard the wind demon's shout, Kayn also heard it.

The second he heard it, Kayn cut down several ice spikes and grabbed them in his hands.

He then jumped up high, opening his field of view to the earth demon that had been blocked by the ice spikes before.

Kayn threw the ice spikes in his hands towards the earth demon, forcing the earth demon to cancel his spell casting as he dodged the ice spikes.

'Just a little more… I can feel my mana filling back up again…'

The wind demon clicked his tongue as he became bolder and more desperate.

He flew in closer towards Kayn and cast his wind blades from up close, forcing Kayn to sacrifice his ice claws to fend off the wind blades.

The earth demon had also learnt his lesson as he created an earth wall first to block Kayn's view and defend himself from more ice spikes.

He then used the location of the wind demon to determine Kayn's location as he cast the huge spell that would finally end their battle with the chilling ice demon.

'We got you now!' The earth demon's thoughts celebrated as the runes disappeared and the spell manifested into the world.
