Episode 94: The Watcher Beyond the Smoke

When the Ember Abyss collapsed behind them, it left more than ashes in its wake.

It left a warning.

As Lucian and Seraphina emerged from the realm of fire, their wings scorched and their hearts bruised, the sigil of victory hovered like a living brand between them. But something was wrong.

Balance hadn't returned.

No guiding voice. No direction.

Only silence.

Seraphina knelt beside the blackened trail they left behind, touching the scorched ground. "The air has changed. We're not alone."

Lucian turned, blade already half-raised. "I know."

In the distance, across the charred plains, stood a figure.

It did not walk. It did not speak.

It simply watched.

Wrapped in smoke, draped in a tattered cloak that fluttered without wind, the being had no face—only a void where light dared not enter.

"The Watcher," Lucian muttered.

Seraphina's eyes widened. "A legend. A myth. They say it records everything—even what the gods fear to remember."

The Watcher raised a hand, and time stopped.

Birds froze mid-flight. Fire halted mid-flicker. Even the wind stilled.

And in that frozen silence, its voice echoed inside them.

"Two flames burn where one should smolder. A union defies the pattern. A vow has shaken the Old Order."

Lucian tried to speak, but his mouth would not move.

"You seek to claim all nine seals. But every seal broken breaks the veil of truth."

Seraphina reached out instinctively, her fingers brushing the edge of the void—and saw everything.

A vision.

The Throne crumbling.

Gabriel falling, wings torn.

A child with Lucian's eyes and Seraphina's fire, crying out in darkness.

A crown made of bone.

The Watcher pulled back, vanishing like mist beneath moonlight.

Time resumed.

Seraphina collapsed into Lucian's arms, trembling.

"What did it show you?" Lucian asked.

She stared up at him, eyes filled with dread.

"The end. But not just ours… everyone's."

From the horizon, storm clouds began to gather—dark, thick, and humming with forgotten power.

Lucian stood tall, brushing soot from his armor. "Then we move faster. To the next seal."

He didn't know what awaited beyond the next gate.

But the Watcher did.

And now, so did Seraphina.
