The Devil's Bride

Episode 93: Ember Abyss

The Ember Abyss was not a place—it was a punishment.

Lucian and Seraphina stood at the edge of the scorched realm, where the sky bled molten red, and the ground groaned with every breath of flame. Lava rivers stretched for miles, flowing like veins of a dying beast. Ash fell like snow, blanketing everything in silence… until the roars began.

A monstrous gate of charred bone and broken swords rose before them, sealed by fire. It was here that Surtan, the Scorcher, ruled.

"Once, he held three suns in his palms," Balance had warned. "Now he burns for power lost, for glory denied. He hates Sovereigns… especially those born of love."

Lucian gripped his blade tighter. "Then let him taste it."

They stepped through the Gate of Blight. Immediately, the air thickened—each breath a punishment, each step a vow.

Seraphina conjured a veil of celestial light, shielding them from the suffocating heat. "This place is made to break kings," she whispered.

"Good thing I'm not just a king," Lucian replied, offering her a sharp smile. "I'm yours."

Through valleys of fire they walked, through fields where memories screamed from molten rocks. Illusions haunted them—visions of their past regrets.

Lucian saw his father's face.

Seraphina saw the child she once lost in a dream.

But they walked on.

At the heart of the Abyss, a tower of flame spiraled into the stormed sky. There, on a throne of melting stone, sat Surtan.

Massive. Terrible. His skin burned like cracked magma, eyes twin furnaces. Chains coiled around his body, binding his rage. A crown of embers floated above his head, constantly disintegrating and reforming.

"You come to test your right to rule?" Surtan's voice boomed. "You are too late. This throne is mine."

Lucian stepped forward. "I don't want your throne. I came to prove I don't need it."

Surtan laughed, a sound that shook the entire realm. "Then kneel before the old fire… or burn with your pride."

He rose.

And the Abyss awakened.

Flame dragons burst from the lava rivers. Molten wolves howled. The sky cracked open as fire rained down. But Lucian and Seraphina didn't flinch.

Together, they soared into battle.

Seraphina's wings blazed as she sang the Hymn of Unbreaking. Each note silenced a flame beast. Each chord lifted fallen ground.

Lucian met Surtan midair, blade against molten fists. For every strike Surtan dealt, Lucian responded with fury forged from love.

"You think love makes you strong?" Surtan sneered, shattering the earth with a single blow.

Lucian spat blood and grinned. "No. Love makes me unstoppable."

The sigil Seraphina had carved into his chest during their vow began to glow—reacting to the flame, absorbing its rage.

And then… Seraphina did something no one expected.

She kissed Lucian.

Mid-battle.

The moment their lips touched, the realm trembled.

Her power surged into him. His darkness accepted it. The kiss birthed a light not of Heaven or Hell—but of something new.

Unity.

Lucian struck once more.

This time, Surtan screamed—not in rage, but defeat. His crown shattered. His flames extinguished. He fell… crumbling into ash and memory.

The tower collapsed behind them as Lucian and Seraphina stood victorious.

A flame-shaped sigil floated before them—proof of the trial passed.

"One down," Seraphina whispered, catching her breath.

Lucian nodded. "Eight to go."

Far above, beyond the smoke and storm, a shadow watched.

It did not move.

It did not breathe.

But it waited.
