Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Supreme Power Of The Eye That Controls Life And Death

Yoruichi, in her black cat form, couldn't help but rub her eyes in disbelief.

What she saw in front of her wasn't the familiar, dignified Seireitei. Instead, it looked like a huge pile of wreckage—ruins scattered everywhere, with dust swirling through the air.

There weren't any buildings left. The ground was cracked into countless deep splits.

If someone didn't know better, they'd think this was a rundown part of Rukongai.

"What happened to Seireitei in the hundred years I was gone!?"

Still in her cat form, Yoruichi walked forward, completely shocked and confused.

As she moved along, she came across two Shinigami from the Fifth Division. They were talking to each other, both looking pale and shaken.

"That guy Nanaya… He's terrifying! There's no way he's human. No human could be that powerful!"

"Exactly. I've been to the World of the Living, and the humans there can't even handle basic Hollows."

"Good thing we ran fast. If we had been a second slower, we would've been pulled into that weird planet he summoned."

"Even Captain Aizen couldn't stop him…"

"Huh? Nanaya!?"

A question mark might as well have popped up above Yoruichi's head.

She blinked, then looked again at the huge pile of debris not far away. It took her a few seconds to process everything.

"Wait… Nanaya did all this!?"

Yoruichi was instantly furious.

In her mind, Nanaya had only arrived in Seireitei two weeks ago. How could he have caused this much destruction in such a short time?

What were the captains doing? Just sitting around and watching while Nanaya wrecked the place!?

What she didn't know was that none of the captains dared to interfere—because Nanaya wasn't the only threat. If anyone tried to step in, they'd be dragged into a three-way brawl involving Unohana Retsu, Zaraki Kenpachi, and Nanaya—three of the most unpredictable and dangerous fighters around.

"Meow! I need to find Nanaya right now!"

Yoruichi dashed off quickly and gracefully.

In a room inside the 12th Division headquarters…

Nanaya stood in front of a mirror, staring thoughtfully at his reflection. His eyes—now a distinct purple with rippling patterns—looked like the Rinnegan.

"It's like the Rinnegan I remember… It has the Six Paths abilities. I think I can even use Summoning Techniques now."

He narrowed his eyes.

"The Gedo Statue… But I still can't use things like Tengai Shinsei, and I definitely can't use Infinite Tsukuyomi without Hollow energy…"

Nanaya was deep in thought as he examined the new power he had just gained.

This version of the Rinnegan, created by absorbing spiritual energy, felt much more powerful than what he remembered from before.

But even this wasn't the Rinnegan's true limit.

"I should create my own Six Paths of Pain… That way I'll have more people under my control."

As he was thinking, he suddenly paused and turned toward the wall, his glowing lavender eyes narrowing.

On the wall, Yoruichi—in her cat form—felt a sudden chill run down her spine.

"Nanaya… Why are you looking at me like that?"

Just now, Yoruichi felt like she was being watched by a god—cold, distant, and overwhelming. It sent chills down her spine.

"Miss Yoruichi!?"

Nanaya looked at Shihouin Yoruichi in surprise.

"How did you find me!?"

He had just seen meteors falling from the sky, but the trail was too scattered for him to track easily. That's why he had been considering using the Six Paths of Pain.

"You have something of mine on you," Yoruichi replied casually as she jumped onto his shoulder.

Now that she was up close, she looked at him curiously.

Even though it had only been two weeks since she last saw him, Nanaya felt completely different. His power had grown so much that it made her uneasy.

"Nanaya, your eyes...?"

Nanaya touched his eyes and smiled.

"It's a new ability I just awakened. It's called the Rinnegan—considered the highest form of eye power. It can control life and death."

"Control life and death!?"

Yoruichi gave him a strange look. "Isn't that a little arrogant?"

Even Soul Reapers never claimed to control life and death. Yet here was a human saying exactly that.

Nanaya just smiled and didn't explain further.

He had recently unlocked the Rinnegan's power—and with it, one of its most forbidden techniques: Rinne Tensei.

This ability allowed him to bring the dead back to life, even their souls. It was something that defied the laws of nature, like a god's power.

But right now, there wasn't anyone he wanted to revive, so the ability was useless to him.

After Nanaya explained everything that had happened during her absence, Yoruichi's eyes widened in shock. She even covered her mouth with her hand.

"Wait… you really beat three captains!?"

"Of course," Nanaya replied with a confident smile.

"Unbelievable... Sajin Komamura, Unohana Retsu, and Zaraki Kenpachi—how could those three monsters lose to you?"

Even after being away from Seireitei for a hundred years, Yoruichi knew how powerful they were.

Komamura aside, Zaraki was a battle-crazed maniac who lived for fighting. And as a noble herself, she knew Unohana's true identity—and how terrifying she really was.

"Unohana Retsu..." Nanaya muttered, thinking about that twisted, sword-obsessed woman. His eyelid twitched slightly. "She only fought me using kendo. I think she was just testing me. I doubt she even went all out."

Then, out of nowhere, Nanaya picked up the black cat Yoruichi, hugged her tightly, and rubbed her fur playfully.

With a satisfied expression, he said: "I take it back—older women aren't scary. Miss Yoruichi is the cutest."

"Huh!?"

Yoruichi's cat face practically sprouted a question mark. She narrowed her eyes and growled: "I don't know what that means, but I'm pretty sure you're insulting me somehow."

"No way, absolutely not!" Nanaya said quickly, shaking his head. Then he changed the topic: "Miss Yoruichi, do you know where I can get a prosthetic body in Soul Society?"

"A prosthetic body? What for?"

Yoruichi tilted her head, confused. "That's something used by injured Soul Reapers in the world of the living. You're still in a human body—you can't even use it."

"I have my own reasons."

Nanaya gave her a mysterious look.

Yoruichi rolled her eyes, jumped out of his arms, and said: "I don't know what you're planning, but if you really want one, go to the Research and Development Bureau."

As she stretched her body lazily, she added:

"But be careful. That place is heavily guarded. If you're not careful, you'll be caught."

Nanaya nodded, deep in thought. Then he looked at Yoruichi, a mischievous smile forming on his face as he pulled out a pouch.

"Miss Yoruichi, look what I brought—it's been a while since you had this, right?"

He opened the pouch to reveal… catnip.

Yoruichi's eyes widened in horror.

"Nanaya, you idiot! Why are you still carrying catnip in Soul Society!? Don't come near me—don't you dare—meow!!!"

Two hours later.

The sky had darkened.

Nanaya strolled happily down the street, a few claw marks on his face. The black cat Yoruichi was draped over his shoulders, glaring at him.

"Nanaya, if you ever give me catnip again, I swear I'll make you regret it," Yoruichi growled, her face red with embarrassment.

Even in her cat form, her blushing cheeks were visible. She was mortified by what had just happened.

"But you looked so happy while using it!" Nanaya said with an innocent smile.

Yoruichi gritted her teeth in frustration. It was true—she had enjoyed the catnip. But he had teased her the whole time, and she felt like she had lost all dignity.

It was as if a cat had been turned into a helpless puppy.

As they walked, a few Soul Reapers from the 12th Division suddenly ran out from a nearby alley.

"Ryuu! Stop right there!"

"You're not getting away! Just give up!"

"...Nanaya!?"

One of them shouted in shock, spotting Nanaya.

All of the Soul Reapers froze. Their faces turned pale, and their bodies started to shake.

"Run!!!"

Someone screamed, and the whole group turned and bolted, running so fast it looked like they'd grow extra legs just to escape faster.

"Huh?"

Yoruichi blinked, surprised. She had expected a fight.

Instead, those Soul Reapers had looked at Nanaya like they had just seen a demon.
