Kate
"Thanks for coming." Josh said with a smile.
He's really grown into one fine man over the years, I'll give him that. I'm actually impressed. It this really the Josh I dated a while back in college?
"So, how've you been?" The waiter brought out our food.
"I've been great. Just work and all. How have you been?" I replied.
Josh held eye contact. "I'm doing much better now."
Wow, Uh...."What work are you into now?"
"Mmm, I'm doing this and that." He shrugged. Why won't he just say it?
I guess he noticed my suspicious gaze when he started laughing.
"I'm kidding, Kate. I have my own law firm now."
"That's impressive."
"I'm glad to hear you say that."
"Why's that?"
"Mmm. I always wanted to become someone who's worthy to be by your side." I didn't know what to say to that. "Anyways, tell me about that boss you're in love with."
I couldn't help but choke on my wine. "Excuse you?"
"Chloe kinda told me."
I scoffed in disbelief. "It's fine, I guess."
"I'm sorry. I just thought talking about him wouldn't make things awkward between us." I looked at him, confused. "I was actually planning on asking you out today, but I decided not to when I heard about you and Xavier."
"Oh."
"As much as I want you back, I have to respect that you are in love with someone else now." He smiled at me and held my hand, caressing my palm. "So, now, I wanna be here for you as you ramble on about this crush of yours."
Why am I kinda disappointed that he's given up on pursuing me? Get a hold of yourself, Kate! It's good that he just wants to remain friends. Right?!
I smiled at Josh as I decided not to dwell on such stupid thoughts. I told him all about Xavier. The more I rambled on about him, the more I was more convinced that I still love him, not just like him. I don't think I'll be able to move on from him, like I convinced myself earlier.
"So, when are you telling him your feelings?"
Josh looked at me from the driver's seat.
Dinner went pretty great, actually. I didn't know I needed to rant to someone after all this time.
I sighed. "I don't know."
How can I confess my feelings when I see how close he is to his fiancée?
"My advice? Just be brave and tell him. Don't have any regrets, Kate. I've learnt that the hard way." He looked at me, a hint of sadness in his eyes.
Those eyes were making me feel guilty for some reason. But why should I be? It's not like I'm doing something wrong pursuing my boss.
Or am I?
