Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Rosette POV'

I was pushed violently out of the door, my stumbled and bumped into a muscled figure and the scent of his cologne wafted up to my nostrils,a subtle blend of leather and spice.

The impact sent a shockwave through my body, and I felt like I was going to collapse.

I raised my head, my gaze meeting a pair of dark shade of eyes that bore into my skin like a cold wind.

The gaze from the onlooker made me shiver involuntarily, sending me to flight mode. I recognize him as Caleb Anderson, Taylor's twin brother raised from another family.

The nurse's attitude changed in an instant, from a rude woman to a caring and kind person.

Her voice was like honey, sweet and soothing, as she greeted Caleb. "Mr. Anderson, how may I help you?"

she politely queried, making sure she looked good in front of him.

Caleb's gaze, however, was fixed on me, his eyes narrowing as he took in my frail and pale appearance. He recalled me as the girl who had been rejected by his cousin Josef a few months ago publicly. At that time he had felt pity towards me, although he couldn't figure out why. But seeing me again, and in such a pitiful condition, pulled some strings in him. The laboured breathing and faint scent of disinfectant on my skin only added to his concern.

The air seemed to thicken as Caleb questioned the nurse, his voice low and menacing.

"Look at her condition, but you dare push her out. Is this how you treat your patients?"

The nurse palpitated, her face turning red with embarrassment.

"I-I... She said she wanted to do it on her own,"

she muttered, feeling suffocated by Caleb's strong aura. Caleb's eyes never left my face as he queried me, his voice firm but gentle.

"Is that true?"

I nodded nervously, my head lowered towards the ground, afraid of meeting Caleb's eyes.

The sound of my own heartbeat filledy ears, a reminder that I was still alive.

I was taken aback when Caleb all of a sudden pulled me to the small stool outside the clinic,

I felt a sense of relief wash over me. The cool surface of the stool seemed to seep into me skin, providing a brief respite from the tension that had been building up inside me.

Caleb's hands were gentle as he sat me down, his eyes locking onto mine.

The medical kit which was handed over my the nurse after Caleb command was like a lifeline, a symbol of hope and healing.

Caleb's hands moved with precision, his fingers deft as he removed the medical equipment.

"This is going to hurt, so scream all you want," he said, his hoarse voice sending shivers down my spine.

"If that won't help, bite on me."

...

As he began to clean and dress my wounds, the pain was excruciating. I tried to resist, but the pain was too much to bear. My teeth dug into his skin, and I felt a rush of satisfaction as he didn't flinch. The sound of my ragged breathing and the feel of his warm skin beneath my teeth were the only things that registered in my mind.

The touch of his hands was like a balm, soothing my skin and calming my nerves.

But as he took in the old wounds that had turned purple and had a hue of pink on them, his face twisted with anger.

Who were so despicable as to harm a girl in such a manner? The thought sent a wave of fury through him, his eyes flashing with indignation.

I felt humiliation and embarrassment wash over me as I pushed Caleb away, covering myself so that he wouldn't have a view of my revealing wounds.

I wanted to end everything there and then, to escape the pain and the shame.

"Thanks for your help, but I don't need it,"

I retorted coldly, my voice barely above a whisper.

"And don't worry, I would pay for your service when I get my paycheck."

As I scurried away, my hair swayed with the wind, a reminder of the fragility and vulnerability that I felt.

The empty purse in my hand seemed to mock me, a symbol of my poverty and helplessness.

I felt a flush of embarrassment as I realized that Caleb had seen my empty purse, my financial struggles laid bare for him to see.
