Chapter 20 - Choosing the dorm

Mia giggled and said, "Now, Hexmasters, you have to decide how many points you want to spend on your accommodation."

Everyone looked at her in confusion.

Xane asked her, "What are our options?"

Maya, the serious one, showed four fingers. "Hexmasters, for one point per week, you'll get a big quarter that you have to share with five other people."

Everyone frowned at this. One of the girls asked, "What are the other options?"

Maya raised one finger and said, "At 3 points per week, you'll get a two-person small quarter. You're free to choose who you want to live with."

All of the Zenairs still frowned, but one guy asked, "What is the third option?"

This time, Mia giggled. "Hexmasters, for just 5 points per week, you'll get a single-room quarter with added 2nd-tier cafeteria access."

"Second-class cafeteria? What's that?"

Mia giggled. "Hexmasters, like we said, you have to spend points to gain services. That includes the food you get to eat. Though the academy is generous to first-year students, they've bundled food costs into the accommodation."

Maya added, "The first two options give access to the 1st-tier cafeteria, which provides basic food. The third option includes tier-2 food. You'll get to eat essence-rich beast meat once every week."

Others got lost in thought while Xane asked, "What about the last option?"

At that, those around him glanced at him with envy. It was clear he was surrounded by copper-potential heirs.

Mia smiled at him and said, "The fourth type of accommodation will cost 20 points. You'll get a 3-room set that you can use however you like. You'll also have access to tier-3 food, including one special beast meal each day."

Xane just shook his head. "That's too much."

Others around him shared the same emotion.

While the others discussed with each other, he asked Zayn,

Zayn thought for a moment and said, [It is the best, but I think it's better to choose the first option for now.]

Xane tilted his head.

[Remember I told you each species awakens on a different day? Humans aren't the last to awaken, so it'll take a couple of days before the academy officially starts. During that time, we're stuck with these points, so it's better to spend them on something like food.]

Xane looked at his thin hand and asked Mia, "Hey, can we spend points to get special food?"

Mia looked at him with surprise, then nodded. "Yup, Hexmaster. But every special meal will cost you 1 point."

Xane smiled. "Oh, in that case, just give me the first type of accommodation with seven special meals."

Mia frowned a bit when she heard the first part, but at the mention of the second part, her mouth dropped.

Xane tilted his head. "Is there a problem?"

Mia came back to her senses and shook her head. "No problem, Hexmaster. Here, let me assign your room."

With that, she looked through a book on the desk and then snapped her fingers. "Done. You can touch your room number, and a map will appear inside your head, Hexmaster. You just have to place your ID on the room door, and it'll act as the key."

Maya added, "Hexmaster, we'll send your stuff to your room by tomorrow morning."

Xane nodded and checked his ID. In the corner, a number had been added to it: '1-1-23.'

As he touched the number, a 2D map appeared before his eyes with his current location marked in green with an arrow.

He saw dotted lines ending at a red dot somewhere behind the building. It was weirdly advanced, like the GPS he used in his old world.

Zayn said to him, [This world is semi-advanced. It's developed in technology that helps deal with monsters and stuff but is backward in other areas.]

Xane nodded as he understood—when your life hangs by a thread, it's hard to focus on luxuries.

He glanced at the others and saw them still busy with discussion. Not waiting for them, he placed his finger on the room number and started following the map.

As he walked out of the building, he saw the other half entering through the door.

Not caring about them, he walked to the track that went further ahead from the side of the building.

While on the track, he asked Zayn,

Zayn sighed. [Nah, it's nothing much. I just understand that with our current limitations, we can't use Hex Art, so it's better to use this time to recover from his almost-ill body.]

Xane nodded.

As he walked further down the track, he saw multiple small wooden buildings to his right, lit up in the darkness.

The left side still had the forest. It was like the track had been built right at the edge of the academy grounds.

He continued walking until he finally saw five massive, wide, and ugly one-floor buildings.

Upon checking the map, he saw the red mark pointed toward one of these buildings.

He moved off the track and walked toward the corner-most building that was right next to it.

Upon entering from the main hall, he found himself in a small corridor. There were small doors on both sides of the corridor, opposite each other.

After passing three doors, he finally saw door number 23 on his left.

Not wasting any time, he placed his ID on the door. The next moment, his ID flashed blue, and he heard a clicking sound as the door unlocked.

He pushed the door open and saw a big hall with six beds placed side by side in the center.

There was a small almirah at the foot of each bed, and a table and chair at the head of each bed.

He closed the hall door and walked further in. Right now, the hall was empty.

On each bed, there was a pair of gray robes with a note asking him to place his ID on the bed of his choice.

He even found a small door that led to a bathroom at the other end.

It wasn't as bad as he thought it would be, but the room didn't have any windows, which made it feel super congested.

After discussing with Zayn, Xane dropped his ID on the second bed next to the main door.

Xane lay on the bed, < Good night, Zayn. We have to start our grind from tomorrow.>

Zayn mumbled to him. [Good night.]
