Chapter 77 - Sin #10 — Listening to Occult or Demonic Voices

"Let no one be found among you… who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft… or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."

— Deuteronomy 18:10–12 (NIV)

God speaks—and so does the enemy.

From the very beginning, Satan has tried to twist God's words and deceive His people. He speaks through false spirits, distorted wisdom, and counterfeit sources of power. When we give our ears to the occult—whether through curiosity, rebellion, or ignorance—we open ourselves to spiritual darkness.

Listening to demonic voices is not just dangerous. It's deadly to the soul. It invites confusion, bondage, fear, and distance from the living God.

The Ear Was Made to Discern God's Voice

You were created to hear the Shepherd's voice—not the serpent's hiss.

"My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me."

— John 10:27

But when you train your ears to receive messages from dark sources—whether through mediums, horoscopes, spiritual readings, or other occult practices—you begin to lose the ability to hear God clearly. The more familiar the enemy's voice becomes, the more unfamiliar God's voice will feel.

Modern Ways People Listen to the Occult

You don't have to visit a witch doctor to be involved with demonic voices. Today, the occult has been repackaged as entertainment, wellness, or "spiritual openness." Common practices include:

Reading horoscopes or relying on zodiac signs for guidance

Consulting tarot cards, psychics, or mediums

Watching or listening to shows that glorify witchcraft or demonology

Practicing rituals that claim to "channel energy" or "cleanse auras"

Using crystals, charms, or symbols for protection or power

Participating in séances, spirit boards, or invoking the dead

What many see as harmless fun or "alternative spirituality," God calls detestable. Why? Because it replaces trust in Him with trust in darkness.

The Spiritual Dangers of Occult Influence

Listening to these voices may feel exciting or insightful at first. But over time:

You open yourself to demonic oppression

You confuse lies with truth

You replace God's Word with spiritual counterfeits

You invite anxiety, fear, and spiritual torment

You sever intimacy with God

"Such things are worldly, unspiritual, and demonic."

— James 3:15

God is not silent. If you're seeking guidance, seek Him. His voice is clear, loving, and true. He doesn't need cards, stars, or spirits to speak to His children.

How to Guard Against Occult Voices

1. Reject All Occult Practices

Even "casual" involvement opens the door. Burn or remove anything connected to these practices. Fully repent and turn back to God.

(Acts 19:19 – "A number… who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly.")

2. Discern Entertainment Carefully

What you consume shapes your spirit. Avoid shows, music, and games that glorify the occult or make darkness attractive.

(Ephesians 5:11 – "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.")

3. Fill Your Mind With God's Word

Scripture trains your ears to recognize God's voice and reject the counterfeit.

(Isaiah 8:20 – "Consult God's instruction… if anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.")

4. Seek Deliverance if Needed

If you've given ground to the enemy through past involvement, seek prayer and counsel from mature believers. Break all agreements with darkness in Jesus' name.

(Luke 10:19 – "I have given you authority… to overcome all the power of the enemy.")

5. Trust the Holy Spirit Alone for Guidance

The Holy Spirit is the only true source of divine wisdom. Learn to walk with Him daily.

(John 16:13 – "When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.")

Prayer of Renunciation and Return

"Father, I repent for every time I've listened to voices that were not Yours. Forgive me for entertaining what is evil, even in ignorance. I renounce all ties to the occult, spiritual darkness, and counterfeit guidance. Cleanse me. Fill me with Your Spirit. Teach me to recognize and follow Your voice alone. I belong to You, and I submit to Your authority. In Jesus' name, Amen."
