Auden had been trying to find a job since he got out of the orphanage.
"Sorry, son, you're too young. It's illegal."
"It's alright, thank you," Auden replied for the thousandth time that day.
Auden was currently 17, just one year shy of being legally allowed to work and earn an income to live. But even then, people were afraid to go against the law. Auden did not blame them—taking risks for someone they barely knew would be stupid if you thought about it for a second. The people he had met today were at least kind enough in their rejections.
He checked his pocket and found that he had 20 dollars left. He could feel the hunger in his stomach. But he knew that if he used it up too soon, he wouldn't have enough when he really needed it.
Auden had been an orphan for as long as he could remember. He lived in an orphanage privately owned by a kind woman who had looked after him his whole life. There were a few other kids in the orphanage as well. But whenever people came to adopt children, Auden always made sure the other kids got a chance to be adopted before he did. He did it because, unlike the others who came later, he had been raised there since he was a baby, and he felt like he owed the lady who had looked after him all these years.
One day, he was the only person left in the orphanage. Then he found out that the lady had gotten an opportunity to have a good life elsewhere, but she had stayed because she wanted to make sure he had a good home. Seeing that he was a hindrance, he decided to run away, taking a few belongings and a little bit of pocket money. The only thing he left behind was a letter thanking her for everything she had ever done for him, and saying he had found a safe place to live, even if it would be illegal until he turned eighteen. So he decided to leave early.
"Hope she doesn't follow me and has a good life," Auden muttered.
He was currently sitting at a riverbank one city away. He wanted to move farther so she wouldn't find him soon. Just as he was contemplating his next move, he saw something unbelievable rising up from the river.
"Is that a truck?"
He never would have expected those four words to be the last ones to come out of his mouth in that life.
Now, he was hearing the explanation from a supposed god who was going to isekai him to the Harry Potter world.
"So you get everything?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, I do." Auden was a bit confused at first, but he adapted quickly. Even though he was an orphan, he was a man of culture who had spent a lot of time reading fanfiction online.
"All right, so you'll be getting a gift before you go in."
"I don't need that. Can I ask for something else?" Auden interrupted.
"Hmm, all right, sure."
"Can you instead make sure that the caretaker lady has a good life?" Auden asked.
"Well, you don't need to worry about that. I made sure that in her memories, you were adopted rather than vanishing suddenly like you did. She will go on to live her life while traveling around the world. That was her wish."
"Oh, thanks for that." Auden now seemed calmer, and it felt like a weight had vanished from his shoulders.
Jason smiled as he saw that. He liked every reincarnator Minerva had found for him. The only thing he wanted in his reincarnators was for them to be decent human beings. Other than that, there were no problems when he chose people.
"All right, kid. As per tradition, I will give you a power with a connection to your name—either a character or the meaning of the name itself. Your two predecessors were also given powers like this. Although the first one was also given a system since his world was too chaotic."
"Okay." Auden started to feel like the weight that had disappeared from his shoulders some time ago had just come back.
"Alright, your name is Auden, which in a way is similar to 'sound' or 'listen.' So I will give you the power to listen to magical beasts, flora, as well as objects with a bit of consciousness within them."
"Wait—sort of like the Voice of All Things in One Piece?"
"Yup, that's correct. It's not an OP ability, as it only allows you to listen and understand, not control."
"No, no, it's okay. Compared to MHA and Fairy Tail, where you sent the others, Harry Potter is relatively easy as long as you know the plot and work hard. Plus, if you're born in a pureblood family, it becomes even easier. While being born in a Muggle family will be more difficult at the start, as long as I use every opportunity I know of, I'll survive in the end."
"That's good, but—" Jason flicked his forehead.
"Ow! What was that for?" Auden complained while rubbing his forehead. That attack had hurt.
"For jumping the gun like an idiot. That was the problem in your past life as well. If you had waited a bit longer instead of running away from home, you would have been adopted by now. Instead, you ran away like an idiot."
"Really?" Auden asked, surprised.
"Yeah. Background checks are normal before choosing reincarnators. It includes parallel futures as well. Well, let's put that aside for a second.
What I was about to say before I got interrupted was that even if your ability seems a bit limited at first, it is balanced by the way you are born and the circumstances surrounding it."
"What kind of circumstances are you talking about?"
"You'll understand when you get there. The knowledge you need will be acquired as soon as you arrive. It's a slightly AU, but not by much.
Following the canon knowledge will help you a lot. And your aim when you get there is simple.
First and foremost, you need to live a good life. I don't want my reincarnators to end up with a bad life. Your aim is to reveal the secrets of your mentors.
Well, off you go then. Plus, you might get some gifts from your senior reincarnators by the time you get there."
Jason snapped his fingers, and Auden started to disappear.
"Wait! What do you mean, mentors? Am I going to be born in a pureblood family or Muggle? You never mentioned that!" he screamed out as he was disappearing.
Then Auden saw a smile on Jason's face.
"Oh kid, it's funny you ask that. It's going to be neither."
"What the helllllll!" Auden screamed as he vanished.
In the Harry Potter World
In the 100+ years he had lived, Dumbledore had never seen something like this.
"Merlin's beard!!!"
A/N- sorry about the delay, I had to fix the FT fanfiction I was working on, the chances of it being over sooner than I thought is very high. But I will be focussing on this fanfiction for some time. Don't worry I will be back for the other one.
