Chapter 8 - Her Voice Again

Adrian returned to the cabin late in the afternoon.

He placed Eva's pendant on the table, beside her letters. The silver caught the firelight, glowing softly.

He sat there in silence for a while, thinking.

So many pieces.

So many clues.

But not enough answers.

He opened his notebook and wrote:

Eva trusted Niko.

She gave him the pendant.

She knew she would disappear.

She left a trail — for me.

He sat back in his chair and stared at the flames.

Then, suddenly, his phone buzzed.

One bar of signal.

A message.

Unknown number.

Just one line:

"Did you find the red window?"

His blood ran cold.

He replied:

"Who is this?"

No answer.

He waited.

Five minutes.

Then another message:

"You're getting closer.

But be careful.

Not everyone wants her found."

Adrian's hands trembled slightly.

He looked around the room. Was someone watching him? Was there a camera? A bug?

He stood up and checked the windows. The doors. Nothing.

He stepped outside.

The wind had picked up again. Trees swayed gently. The fog had returned.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed again.

Another message:

"She's not the only one who left something behind."

Adrian didn't reply this time.

He walked to the edge of the trees and looked out into the forest. The shadows were longer now. The air colder.

He thought of Eva's voice.

He hadn't heard it in ten years, but somehow, he still remembered it clearly. The way she said his name. The way she laughed. The way she whispered secrets in the dark.

He missed her.

Not just the idea of her.

Her.

And now… she might be alive.

He went back inside and sat at the table again.

Then he noticed something.

There was something inside the pendant.

A tiny piece of paper folded small.

He opened it carefully.

Just one line:

"Meet me at the old train tunnel. Midnight."

No name.

No date.

But he knew who it was.

Eva.

She was reaching out again.
