The bass thumped through the frat house, vibrating up through the soles of my shoes. I stood with my back against the wall, nursing a red plastic cup of some terrible beer I'd barely touched. Chloe had dragged me to this party despite my protests, insisting I needed to "get back out there" after everything that had happened.
"Sera!" Chloe suddenly appeared in front of me, her eyes wide and glassy from too many shots. She gripped my arm with surprising strength. "I need to tell you something."
"What is it?" I leaned closer to hear her over the music.
"I met him." Her voice was slurred but serious. "My mate. I met my mate today."
I stared at her in shock. "What? Where? When?"
"At the boutique downtown. He—" Chloe's face suddenly paled. She pressed a hand to her mouth. "Oh god."
Before I could react, she doubled over and vomited directly onto my shoes.
"Shit!" I jumped back, but not fast enough. My favorite boots were covered in tonight's bad decisions.
