Chapter 13 - Escaping The Castle Walls.

The Essence sword pulsed lightly as Alexander charged recklessly at the knight.

The knight was still partially stunned, this was the first time he'd seen a sword made from pure soul essence, normal people didn't even have that much to begin with.

But he didn't let his eyes slow down his sword, he channeled and struck Alexander, this time successfully pushing him back.

Alas, Alexander wasn't a trained swordmaster, the knight now realising this, attacked aggressively, each swing colliding with the force of a chariot.

Alexander felt his hand going numb, he jumped back and attempted to steady his footing, but the knight didn't give him that chance.

He skipped, and with a large stride once more caught up to Alexander, raising his sword, he struck down with a low growl.

Alexander furrowed lightly.

Stepping slightly to the left, he brought his essence sword down at the knight's wrist, the knight was already injured by his spear, so Alexander thought this would be easy.

But he was woefully wrong.

The knight pulled back, and brought his sword down, blocking Alexander's devious strike.

The knight smirked arrogantly, meanwhile, Alexander's expression suddenly switched from serious to shocked, he looked behind the knight, eyes wide, raised finger and yelled.

"What the hell is that?".

The knight scoffed in disdain, Alexander's childish tricks were not going to work on him.

…

The lady blasted a guard away with a wave of her hand, she noticed Alexander's childish antics, and as much as she wanted to choke hold him at the moment.

She couldn't, so instead she pointed in their direction and used Alexander's essence, and from far behind the knight, a boulder made of essence materialized and shot at the knight's back with the speed of a locomotive.

…

The knight felt a strange sensation of death creeping closer, but he simply refused to fall for Alexander's childishness.

Alexander himself was astonished, but this time it was real, he cursed and turned to escape the essence boulders flight trajectory.

Seeing Alexander's reaction, the knight finally turned around, sword high, but the next moment, his eyes went even wider than Alexander's.

The boulder collided with a thud sound, crushing the knight's armour, twisting his sword and crushing his bones, the boulder didn't stop.

It carried the knight through the ranks of the guards, some of them managed to dodge to the side, hugging the walls, but most were carried along with him till the end of the hallway, and thrown outside of the castle.

The rest of the guards were left speechless, too stunned to react. Alexander had his back to the wall, glaring daggers at the lady.

She simply ignored him and once more raised her sword, the remaining guards looked at one another, before carrying their spears and pointing them towards Alexander.

"Fucking hell". He exclaimed. "She's right next to you guys, damn cowards".

Before they could begin their attacks, the lady brought her palms together, now finally having time to cast a proper spell.

She spoke sorcery into existence by weaving the letters of the forbidden tongue into words of power that bend reality.

From her spell, a sphere of light shot to the middle of the battleground, and within seconds, tentacle-like threads shot out in dozens and pierced through the hearts of the remaining knights.

The threads didn't stop at impaling them, they also pulled the men, amour and all into the sphere of light, to Alexander, it was like the sphere was compressing them before swallowing.

But to the lady, the sphere was bending the space around them and transporting their corpses to a different place.

It sounded quick, but the spell was something she's been preparing for a while, and only had time to add the finishing touches after successfully disrupting the battle.

The lady breathed a heavy sigh of relief, she glanced towards Alexander.

"Shall we?".

Alexander never needed an invitation to begin with, he dispersed his essence sword and skipped over some bodies before reaching her.

The moment he did, she added with a raised brow.

"Seriously though, was that the best distraction you could come up with?".

"It was in the heat of the moment…". He said with a rosy tinge on his cheeks.

The sacrifice lady shook her head helplessly, but the two didn't get much time for a reprieve, because the next moment, heavy footsteps echoed from beyond the corridor.

And before they could react, rows of red guards appeared before them, these men were armed with bows and arrows, fully dogged.

They raised their bows and aimed their arrows at the duo.

Alexander felt like cursing again, the sacrifice lady furrowed lightly, she got exhausted, and Alexander's essence was supposed to be saved till they made it down, but instead they wasted so much of it fighting.

His soul sea might be abnormal, but it still had its limitations, and not to mention, he's barely considered a rank one at the moment.

"We need to run". She said in a whisper.

Alexander nodded lightly, he agreed, but run where exactly?, he turned his head away from the new row of guards and towards their escape path.

They needed to jump, but that was easier said than done. He came up with the idea, but honestly speaking, he was hoping they could rely on her sorcery for the landing part.

But now, her chest was rising and falling, and he felt his mind drained, almost like his soul sea was now nothing but a lake experiencing drought.

But it was either jump, or get shot to death.

Alexander didn't think too long, he grabbed the lady's wrist, pulling her in the process as his legs made a mad dash towards the opening deliberately built into the castle walls.

Seeing this, the guards released their first volley without hesitation, dozens of arrows shot through the air, covering all angles.

If these arrows make any contact, they are most certainly dead.

They didn't wait to find out, the moment they made it to the flight of stairs they jumped, hand in hand, the clouds were thick, and air, wet and heavy.

But that didn't terrify them as much as what was behind them.
