As Alvin and I walked towards the barrier, Thorn stayed behind to look after the Lord's hut.
Looking at Alvin, besides me, I asked, "So you're a soldier?" Hearing me, Alvin showed an embarrassed expression as he scratched his face awkwardly "Truthfully, I'm just a trainee, I've only been training for 3 months. I haven't even gotten to have a proper fight yet." Looking at the awkward expression on Alvin's face as he said this, I couldn't help but chuckle. "I'm sure you'll be fine," I said whilst laughing and patting his back.
After a while longer of walking I asked Alvin another question to pass the time. "What do you know about this place?" Hearing my question Alvin pondered for a while before finally coming to an answer. "Only the basics like how I'm meant to help you and how you're in a universal competition, I don't even know how I got here." I nearly nodded in response, it was as I had expected.
Finally, we arrived at the barrier, but there were no monsters in sight, so we began to follow along the border of the barrier.
After a couple more minutes of walking, we finally encountered some monsters. Once again, they were flame hounds, three of them. Not waiting for Alvin to react, I dashed forward as fast as I could, far surpassing human limits. Quickly exiting the barrier, I kicked one of the hounds away before grabbing the other two hounds by the face, channelling all my strength to crush their skulls, letting out a sickening sound. Lying the bodies down, I looked at the last hound who was whining in fear as it stared at me. "Alvin, that one's yours to take care of," I said as I pointed towards the last hound.
Alvin became pale as he looked towards his next opponent, but he didn't give up; instead, he slowly exited the confines of the barrier, pulling his dagger from its sheath. Slowly approaching the hound Alvin was on high alert for whatever could happen. As the hound noticed the other human approaching it, it began to back away, keeping both eyes locked on the two people in front of it, but once it noticed that only one human was approaching it, it became more confident and started to growl and bark towards Alvin.
Looking at the hound in front of him Alvin stopped for a second to strengthen his will. With a new sense of determination, with his hand clenched around his dagger, Alvin pounced forward as fast as he could.
Before Alvin could reach the hound, it quickly moved out of the way before jumping towards Alvin, aiming for his neck. Noticing the dog, Alvin quickly twisted his body to dodge, but it was too slow, causing one of the dog's fangs to tear the flesh on his neck.
"Ahhh" Alvin yelled out as the wound on his neck seemed to burn, causing extreme pain. Using this as an opportunity, the hound tried to go in for another attack, this time to kill, but Alvin quickly kicked forward towards the dog, hitting its snout, causing it to wince in discomfort. Using this opportunity, Alvin sank his dagger into the hound's neck with all his might, twisting it over and over until he knew for a fact that the hound was dead.
Looking at the fight that had just unfolded in front of me, a smile broke out across my face; he had potential.
Finally removing his dagger from the lifeless corpse of the hound, a sense of accomplishment overcame Alvin as he stared into the lifeless eyes of the beast he had just killed.
Basking in the accomplishment, Alvin couldn't help but let out a yell in excitement, but then he remembered that he wasn't alone, causing his face to turn red in embarrassment.
"Good work" I called out as I began to walk towards Alvin whilst clapping. "Thank you, sir," Alvin responded as he stared into my eyes with a smile on his face.
Satisfied with Alvin I finally turned my attention towards the three corpses on the ground. Picking up the corpse at Alvin's feet, I handed it to him and said, "This is dinner for you and Thorn tonight." Hearing me, Alvin was confused over what I was gonna eat if this corpse was only for him and Thorn, but that curiosity didn't last for long as he saw what happened next with a look of horror written over his face.
After handing the corpse to Alvin, I walked towards the two corpses with crushed skulls. Bending down, I picked one up and sank my teeth into its neck, causing that wonderful explosion of taste to once again resound throughout my body. Licking my lips, I ferociously devoured the corpse, finishing it in a record time of two minutes before moving onto the next body.
[You have devoured 2 Flame hounds: STR +2, AGI+2.
Skill Flame coat level up.]
Looking at the message, I was surprised that I could level up my skills by devouring more of the beasts that gave me the skill in the first place.
