Chapter 4 - CHAPTER FOUR

He approached Freya's car and opened the trunk of the car. He smiled at himself as he took out his old bicycle. He had hidden it in the trunk when Freya was not looking before leaving for the company.

He climbed on it and headed straight to City's Bank to get his account upgraded so he could be able to access it.

He suddenly stopped in front of a huge mall. It was a very expensive mall and only the wealthy ones patronize them.

He smiled, parked his bicycle in front of the mall and proceeded to walk inside before being stopped by the security guard.

"This is not a place for beggars, so please walk away." The security guard sneered at him. Maxwell glanced at himself from head to toe and smiled. 'Even a mere security guard is now tongue-lashing others'.

"What do you mean I am a beggar? I came here to get something. And if you will please allow me to enter." He said to the man. The security guard was surprised. He shrugged his shoulders and opened the door for him.

Maxwell walked straight to the watches section and grabbed a Jasmine wristwatch. He intentionally took the one that looked similar to the one Nicholas bought for Freya.

He walked to the shop attendant and showed her the watch. The attendant was surprised, she stared at Maxwell for a long time, until Maxwell cleared his throat and uttered a statement;

"Anything is the problem?" He asked her.

"Oh not at all. It's just that this watch costs a million dollars and I am not sure you can…" Maxwell stretched out his diamond card to her, sending the words back into the attendant's mouth.

The attendant stared at the card, it was her first time seeing a card like that and she couldn't help but figure out the type of card it was.

Regardless, she collected the card from him, inserted it into the terminal and gave Maxwell to input his pin.

To her greatest shock, the transaction went through and the payment was successful. Her sour expression was suddenly replaced by a sweet smile.

"I am sorry I treated you badly." She said as she handed over the watch and card to Maxwell.

"It's fine." Maxwell muttered, collected his stuff and turned away.

The shop attendant beckoned to the security guard and said some words to him.

"Run some background check on that man."

Maxwell got on his bicycle and rode away. He got to the bank in little time and met with a long queue that won't seem to end anytime soon.

"Did you hear that the Smith's family was disgraced by the White's family? They offered to partner with the Smith's family but they would be getting the larger share of the revenue. That's clearly sticking their hands into the Smith family's throat. What an embarrassment!" A woman said to her friend.

"I heard about it. It was unfortunately caused by Freya. Her mistake was getting married to that good-for-nothing." The woman's friend added.

Maxwell shook his head and walked away from the queue.

Just as he walked away, he caught the sight of someone familiar, it was his classmate back in college, Richard. He was with a lady who also seemed familiar. Upon closer observation, the lady was also his classmate, the most beautiful girl in her class back then, Lydia. She was still as beautiful and stunning as before.

"Hi Richard. How have you been?" Maxwell greeted as he approached him.

Richard took a glance at him and hissed.

Maxwell was a bit surprised by his actions, and he thought he probably didn't remember who he was.

"I am Maxwell White, we used to be classmates. Don't you remember me?" He asked excitedly.

"What's up with these beggars nowadays? Just tell me if you want me to give you money, how could I possibly know you?" Richard shouted, drawing the attention of everyone to them. Maxwell felt a bit embarrassed by his words, but he still managed to keep a straight face. Richard was the only heir to the Stone's family, and was brought up as a spoilt and arrogant child.

Maxwell had gained a scholarship into the same school as him and he used to help him study, he even went through extreme lengths including writing exams for him so he could pass.

Richard dipped his hand into his pocket and splashed some notes on Maxwell's face.

"You can as well get yourself something with that." He hissed and walked away from him. People laughed at Richard's remarks, and they all plastered their eyes on Maxwell.

Maxwell watched them as they both walked into the bank to get attended to, not even bothering to stay on the queue as others. He could see Lydia giggle and smile contentedly at Richard's actions.

After some hours, it finally reached Maxwell's turn and he walked inside to be attended to.

"I would love to upgrade my account." He said to the lady in front of him. The lady collected his details and consulted her computer. She raised her head in shock, glanced at Maxwell and lowered her gaze back to the system.

"Are you Mr. Maxwell White?" The lady inquired.

"Sure, I am. Any problem?" He asked her.

"No, it's fine." The lady muttered. She had wanted to raise some concerns about the huge money in his account, but seeing that the money was sent by the Skye's corporations, she decided to keep quiet and wondered if he was another wealthy man in disguise.

"Please append your signature on this form. The account will be upgraded in twenty-four hours, you will then be able to access it." The lady said to him. Maxwell nodded his head and signed on the form.

He thanked the woman and walked out of the bank.

He climbed on his bicycle and on a few thoughts, headed straight to Skye's corporations. He hardly had a free day in the Smith's family, so he could take the opportunity and settle all his pending matters.

He arrived at the Skye's corporations shortly after. He marveled at the beauty of the scenery. The last time he came here was about ten years ago when he came to make an investment into gold. A lot of things have changed since then, and Maxwell couldn't believe that he is now the owner of all these riches staring at him.

He dialed Ava's number and informed him of his presence.

A few seconds later, a young lady rushed out, and approached him.

"Mr Maxwell White, right?" Ava asked with a smile while Maxwell nodded his head.

"Please follow me." Ava directed him into the company. Maxwell was even more fascinated by the interiors of the company. It was by far more beautiful than the exterior.

"Here is your office, sir." Ava said to him. Maxwell stared into the office and smiled.

He grabbed a seat and Ava also sat opposite him. He opened the drawer and took out some documents.

"I will be your assistant. Please sign these papers so as to make the transfer of ownership official." Ava slid the documents towards him. Maxwell read through the documents and nodded. He took out a pen and scribbled down his signature.

He was still finding it hard to believe what was happening that he pinched himself several times to ensure he wasn't dreaming.

"It's all done. Congratulations Mr Maxwell." Ava greeted him.

Maxwell smiled and exchanged a handshake with her.

"But I have a request." Maxwell said to her.

"Please do ask." Ava replied, listening carefully to Maxwell.

"Can you please make my identity a secret? I don't feel like getting known by the public due to some reasons." He said to her, clutching his fingers together as his eyeballs darted sideways.

"No problem sir. The decision is all yours." Ava smiled at him.

Maxwell nodded his head in excitement, he glanced through the office and his eyes caught a hold of a document with a name written on it.

"Can I see that document please?" He pointed at it and Ava hurriedly fetched it for her.

"Richard Stone?" He mumbled, biting his lower lip.

"Yes. We just signed a deal with the Stone's family, and it was Richard's name that was presented as the representative we will work with." Ava replied to him.

Maxwell smiled and stared into the air.

'what a small life'. He thought to himself.

"Tell the Stone's family that we will no longer be working with them. Reason should be that their son is arrogant and has offended someone important. But remember, never disclose my identity no matter what." Maxwell explained to her.

Ava nodded her head without questioning Maxwell's demands.

"I get it. I will do just as you've said." Said Ava.

"So you will make an announcement that the deal will be awarded to another company, so different companies can come for the interview, but I have someone in mind. Reject everyone that comes for the interview, I will let you know who I have in mind later." Maxwell concluded. Ava agreed to what he said and promised to do exactly what he wanted.

"I understand perfectly."

Maxwell glanced at the time and sighed. It's been a busy day and he was getting tired already. He bid farewell to Ava, climbed his bicycle and rode away.

"With the Skye's corporations influence, the White's family has to step down. Also, I will see how that Nicholas can keep on pestering Freya in the future." He said smilingly to himself as he rode home.
