Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Trial of Mortal

As soon as he passed through the giant gate his eyes were blinded by light. When he came to he was in a dimly lit cave, it was 5 metres high with a diameter of about 50 metres.

He immediately became alert, he couldn't see anything but his instincts were telling him something dangerous was watching him in the shadows.

He lost all feelings of sleepiness, his brain becoming hyper active. (Welcome challenger, to the Tower of the eternal night, where all dreams come true and the sunless lands are all but a tale.

First challenge: Trial of mortal, survive for 10 minutes against the blind dweller. Notice: host can choose to quit and will be taken out of the tower. Good luck)

Huh, he looked around with panic? The female voice that echoed in his head did not say anything else . Who are you? There was no answer. He clicked his tongue in irritation.

Suddenly his hair stood on end, he raised his head and 25 metres away, hanging on the cave roof was a black creature half his height. ( Choose your weapon) a projection of different weapons appeared before him.

Without much time to consider his choise he picked a pair of daggers. A sound wave hit him, a moment later the blind dweller dropped from the roof and spread it leather wings flying straight towards him.

It was fast, much faster than he was but it speed was manageable. It was not like the scorpion tail or the ability holders. He could only survive those due to his high sixth sense.

However he can react to this creatures speed even without it even though it would be hard but since he did have his sixth sense, dodging it attacks was child play.

It brandished it two sharp fangs but he simply sidestepped, the wind screamed as it flew passed him. He ran to the other side of the cave.

It flew at him again and he crouched down causing it to fly above him. This game of cat and mouse continued for 3 minutes. In the past three minutes he had noticed it had a hard time changing direction mid flight.

It had to slow down and use the wall as a foothold to change direction. With that in mind he formulated a plan. He stood close to the wall and held his daggers tight.

He was giving it two options, miss and hit the wall with that much speed or slow down before reaching him. Neither which would be good for it.

He just hoped it wasn't intelligent and he was not disappointed. It flew at him with it top speed but upon realising how close he was to the wall it slowed down.

He swung his dagger at it but he had miscalculated, he had assumed it couldn't change it direction mid flight at all but that was only when flying at it top speed.

It had slowed down and easily dodged his attack. He had swung his dagger so hard that when he missed he fell forward. He rolled on the ground and continued running to the other side of the cave.

Having learnt from his mistake he did not get close to the wall but stood at the centre of the cave. He felt the familiar wave passed through him.

This was how it determined his location, he closed his eyes and waited. He could feel it coming at him at breakneck speed. He opened his eyes and brandished his dagger.

Instead of swinging it though he merely placed it in it flight path. It had no time to adjust it flight, the dagger went through it chest.

He felt his bones crack from the strain but he did not let go, he shoved the dagger even further and pressed it down on the ground. It flapped it wings generating strong winds.

It struggle became less and less and eventually it stopped and died. ( Condition met: does challenger wish to proceed to the next challenge or accept reward?)

What the reward?( Reward: Host can choose any mortal grade ability of any level) could you show me those rewards. Morpheus wasn't usually a motivated person but abilities did interest him.

Even though he had no intentions of obtaining a mortal grade ability he still wanted to know a bit about them. A list of hundreds if not thousands of abilities appeared in front of him.

Most were simple abilities, ones that increase speed, others increase strength or durability. They were different from each other though.

While others might increase your speed by many times they could only do so in a straight line while others do not increase it by that much they allow for more versatility. The abilities ranged from early to peak level of mortal grade.

He noticed those with a higher level also had more restrictions. There was an ability that turned it users body to diamond increasing his defence by absurd amounts but they could not move while in that state.

Another gave one the ability to control fire but only to control it, it doesn't give them the ability to create fire while a lower level one gives the person to create fire but has no control over it at all.

He shook his head, he was definitely not choosing any of these abilities even though he did see some potential in some of them. He closed the tab. Give me the next challenge.

(Affirmative) he felt energy enter his body and strengthening him. He knew instinctively this was essence even though he never had any interactions with it before.

When it was done he felt stronger, by his estimation he was two times stronger than before, his entire body felt refreshed. A blue circle with intricately drawn lines inside it appeared before him, this was his passage to the next floor.

I'm going to sleep for a while, he whispered as he lay down and closed his eyes. (....?di...did you just fall asleep?) after some time he woke up. (Done with your little nap?, then please proceed to the next challenge) you sound mad for some reason.

You should sleep when you mad, it good for your mind. He stepped into the blue glowing circle and disappeared into particles.
