Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Penredax's Diary

'This isn't Roselle's diary!' Klein's heart shook with surprise, but his gaze continued to scan down the text—

"February 5th, the process of collecting Seer materials went quite smoothly. Most of the materials can be bought at ordinary mysticism enthusiast gatherings, but this ability... is somewhat ordinary. Could it be that I've been tricked by Roselle? Or is the 'better' he mentioned not simply about ability?"

Seeing this, Klein shifted his gaze upward, looking again at the first line's date that he had previously overlooked—

"February 2nd."

'Three days? That makes sense. Lavos Squid's Crystalllized Blood and Stellar Aqua Crystal aren't particularly rare materials, but this diary has no year? Is it because there are entries before this, or was no year written at all?' Klein shook his head lightly, then continued reading—

"February 6th, the Seer potion's abilities need to be paired with considerable mysticism knowledge to be effective. For this reason, I had no choice but to start learning those mysterious mumbo-jumbo things. Perhaps I should have chosen Marauder back then."

"February 7th, the Seer ability is AMAZING."

'Hey, hey, this gentleman, your integrity has dropped!' Klein looked at the last sentence, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly.

He desperately wanted to immediately inquire about the origin of this diary from Mr. Devil, but the next moment he dismissed the idea himself.

Once he asked, regardless of what form it took, it would make Demon and the other members aware of this diary's peculiarity.

Suppressing his curiosity, Klein waved his hand to dismiss the notes in his hand, saying in a gentle tone:

"Very good. What reward do you want?"

"Consider it repayment for Mr. Fool allowing me to offer 'sacrifices' through prayer." Snow said respectfully, immediately drawing the surprise of Justice and The Hanged Man.

'Sacrifices? Prayer? Has Mr. Devil already prayed to Mr. Fool as well?' Miss Justice's understanding of Beyonder gathering was still quite limited, and she couldn't quite grasp the profound significance of this. After all, not long ago, she had also once prayed to Mr. Fool for a good dream.

But as a veteran of Beyonder gathering, The Hanged Man keenly caught the key information in this—

Devil's phrasing was "allowing," which meant that Devil had taken the initiative to propose believing in The Fool?

Although they had only participated in two Tarot Club gatherings together, from the knowledge and intelligence network that Devil had displayed in previous conversations, The Hanged Man could be certain that even if he wasn't a member of some ancient family, he must belong to some mysterious organization, and might even be in the middle to upper levels.

How could such a person not understand the risks of praying to unknown entities?

Or rather, did he determine that praying to The Fool could yield benefits greater than the risks?

'It seems my previous speculation was correct. The Fool is indeed some ancient entity, and the family that Devil belongs to very likely happens to know information about this entity, or even—was originally an organization that worshipped this entity!'

Looking at The Hanged Man's etheric body beginning to enter thinking mode, Klein didn't wait much longer, but said unhurriedly:

"Very well."

Then, he swept his gaze across Justice, The Hanged Man, and Devil, continuing:

"You may now communicate freely."

Hearing Mr. Fool speak, Audrey, who hadn't been able to find Roselle's diary, immediately spoke up:

"Mr. Devil, I've already found the Agate Peacock tail feather and Black-spotted Cobra venom fang you're looking for. How should I give them to you?"

Of course, by praying to Mr. Fool!

Snow was about to say this, but he suddenly remembered that The Sun hadn't joined yet, and Klein hadn't even digested the Seer potion, so he couldn't possibly complete sacrificial rituals and bestowal. But the Instigator potion wasn't needed right now anyway, so he might as well let Justice hold onto it for now...

Just as Snow was about to say this, a sudden flash of inspiration struck his mind, and then Mr. Devil had an interesting idea.

Miss Justice, in her Spectator state, noticed that Mr. Devil seemed to show a somewhat mischievous smile, then spoke:

"You can have someone bury them in the woods of Backlund's Empress Borough. I'll go retrieve them. Oh, and make the package as small as possible."

'He knows my identity?' Miss Justice almost couldn't maintain her Spectator state, but the next moment, she shook her head—

'Previously, Mr. Hanged Man quite easily determined that I was a Loen noble. Mr. Devil shouldn't have much difficulty noticing this either. And now it happens to be Backlund's social season, with most nobles in Backlund, so choosing Empress Borough, where nobles are most concentrated, doesn't seem problematic. But I still need to be careful... Oh right, I can have Susie do it, and also observe the other party's appearance while I'm at it.'

Although Audrey told herself that wanting to secretly investigate the identities of Tarot Club members was wrong, her curiosity still made her unable to restrain such thoughts. Moreover, her own identity seemed to be at risk of exposure, so it would be better to investigate!

Thinking of this, Audrey finally made up her mind. She nodded and said:

"Alright, I'll have someone do it. But there are five or six wooded areas in Empress Borough. Which one are you referring to?"

"You can choose whichever is convenient for you, but it's best to agree on a time, or it wouldn't be good if someone else dug it up."

Snow's tone was very relaxed. Miss Justice hesitated slightly, then nodded:

"I'll have someone bury the materials in the woods on the west side of Empress Borough. You can go look for them after five o'clock tonight."

Justice and Devil quickly finalized the details of their transaction. Everyone began sharing intelligence again. The Hanged Man casually mentioned a few maritime incidents, but Devil and Justice were obviously not very interested.

Seeing that the communication was nearing its end, Klein immediately concluded the Tarot Club. But returning to reality, he couldn't help but recall that diary.

Without doubt, this diary most likely came from another transmigrator. It was only because he also wrote his diary in Chinese characters that Mr. Devil had mistaken it for Roselle's diary and submitted it. And judging from the neat handwriting, it was probably the original manuscript.

While it wasn't impossible for an original manuscript to be circulating outside, Klein still felt that this original manuscript might have some connection to Mr. Devil.

In mysticism, intuition means that spirituality is giving hints. After Klein realized this, he immediately materialized paper and pen, carefully writing down a divination statement—

"The reason I think this diary is related to Mr. Devil. The reason I think this diary..."

Repeatedly chanting the divination statement, Klein activated Dream Divination. The moment his body leaned back, his soul seemed to float out of his body, and then he saw—or rather heard—a sentence—

'Hmm, yes, Pan... well, pages left by an elder in my family mentioned this point, but that elder didn't leave behind a corresponding interpretation method, so what I understand is only this much.'

'Notes left by an elder mentioned Roselle's diary... Could it be that this so-called elder is that transmigrator who crossed over after Roselle?'
