Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Devil's Debut

Hearing Mr. Fool's words, Miss Justice immediately adjusted her mindset, entering the Spectator state, then smiled gently and said:

"I want to know if there's a Sequence potion named 'Arbiter,' and also, what kind of Beyonder can directly pass through wooden doors, or make anti-theft locks ineffective?"

Mr. Fool knew this question, and Mr. Hanged Man knew it too, but the first to answer was neither Mr. Fool, who was maintaining his dignity, nor Mr. Hanged Man, who planned to use this to exchange for intelligence, but rather the new member—

Mr. Devil.

"I can answer your question." Snow slightly raised his head, speaking in a steady and powerful voice.

"What kind of compensation do you need? I can pay with gold pounds, um, how about five hundred gold pounds?" Miss Justice's money-throwing ability was truly fascinating. For knowledge that wasn't too rare, she offered a price equivalent to a Sequence 8 potion formula.

"I need two kinds of Beyonder materials: a pair of Black-spotted Scale Snake fangs and three Onyx Peacock tail feathers. At normal prices, these would be about six hundred pounds, but considering the difficulty of collection, there would be additional premiums. I can make up the difference in cash, or you can ask me to answer some questions that aren't too high-end."

"No problem!" This was the first time Audrey encountered someone giving change when buying something, which made her a little excited. She immediately agreed. Snow didn't drag it out and directly answered:

"A pathway with the potion name 'Arbiter' does indeed exist. In fact, the families that control this Sequence are the royal families of the two great kingdoms of Loen and Feynapotter—Augustus and Castiya. Arbiter is Sequence 9 of this pathway. Besides excellent combat abilities, they also possess convincing charisma and dignity."

Seeing Miss Justice nod slightly, Snow continued:

"As for the Beyonder you mentioned who can open doors or locks, that should be a Sequence 9 'Apprentice.' This pathway is controlled by the Abraham family, and the Psychology Alchemist, the Demoness Sect, and the Aurora Order also control parts of it."

"Abraham family?" The Hanged Man silently noted this information he wasn't familiar with, while Audrey couldn't help but sigh:

"If I had the 'Apprentice' formula before, perhaps I wouldn't have chosen 'Spectator.'"

Hearing Audrey's words, Snow chuckled:

"Then I must congratulate Miss Justice on her good fortune."

"Why do you say that?" Miss Justice's face behind the fog showed a puzzled expression. Was there something wrong with the Apprentice pathway?

"Because the Spectator pathway is one of the strongest among the known twenty-two Divine pathways. Considering the enormous risks of the other pathway, removing the 'one of' wouldn't be inappropriate either." At this point, Snow suddenly seemed to remember something and immediately turned to look at The Fool, respectfully placing his hand on his chest in salute: "I apologize, Mr. Fool, I meant no offense."

"It is of no consequence." Mr. Fool magnanimously forgave the Devil's rudeness, but he was also puzzled as to why Snow would say Spectator was the strongest pathway.

Audrey was very happy that Mr. Demon regarded the "Spectator" pathway as the strongest, but she was more curious about why he reached such a conclusion.

As someone new to the Beyonder world, she didn't have as many concerns as Mr. Hanged Man and asked directly:

"Why do you say that? Oh, this can be settled with that one hundred gold pounds compensation."

"Finally!" Snow had said so much precisely for this moment. He adjusted his tone and then spoke:

"The Spectator pathway possesses the power to alter fate. High-Sequence powerhouses of this pathway can freely alter the trajectory of others' destinies, making everything develop according to their wishes. If you suddenly discover a large number of coincidences in your life, then please immediately pray to Mr. Fool, because this very likely means you have entered the script of some High-Sequence powerhouse of the Spectator pathway."

'Alter fate!' Klein's heart suddenly tightened. Not long ago, he had learned from Mr. Azik that there were inconsistencies in his fate, and those numerous coincidences had always troubled him. Could all of this be the handiwork of some High-Sequence existence of the Spectator pathway? But why would they target him?

"Alter fate? That sounds wonderful!" Audrey had no idea of the tumultuous waves surging in Mr. Fool's heart. She fantasized about becoming a High-Sequence existence and using coincidences to prank Alfred, almost laughing out loud.

However, she still remembered she was in a Tarot Club meeting and nodded with satisfaction:

"Mr. Devil, I'm very satisfied with your answer. I'll gather those two materials as soon as possible."

After the small episode caused by Snow, the Tarot Club returned to its original trajectory, until Mr. Fool said those words: "Without my permission, you are not to recite my name," and the gathering came to an end.

...

"Spectator... altering fate... script..." Klein, who had returned to reality, felt a strong sense of crisis.

He very much wanted to ask Snow about the specific details of the Spectator pathway, but his identity as The Fool prevented him from speaking up.

"Perhaps Mr. Azik would know something? If he hasn't lost his memory..." Klein shook his head gently. If Mr. Azik knew, he would have told him before. But if it really was a High-Sequence powerhouse, even if he knew, he'd have no way to resist!

"No, if it were a High-Sequence powerhouse, there should be no need to go through such elaborate schemes to plot against me. Even if the other party wanted the secrets above the gray fog, I would have absolutely no way to resist. So, the other party's interference actually isn't targeting me, or... not just me?" The more Klein thought about it, the more terrified he became. He had barely escaped the trouble of the Antigonus family notebook, only to be drawn into even greater trouble. No, perhaps even the Antigonus family notebook was part of the "script"!

"What should I do? Tell the captain? No, the captain is only Sequence 7, and I don't have sufficient sources of information..."

Klein paced around his room. After a long while, he could only shake his head with a bitter smile, because he realized he had no options whatsoever.

"For now, I can only focus on improving my own strength..." Klein was very clear that even if he digested the Seer potion, he was still far from High-Sequence, let alone the fact that he hadn't even obtained the Seer potion formula yet. But this was already the only thing he could do at present!

The carriage entered the Hales Street area. Klein half-jumped, half-walked into the Divination Club. Just as he was about to greet the receptionist Miss Angelica, his pupils suddenly contracted, because his spiritual intuition told him that the handsome young man currently standing in front of Miss Angelica was very dangerous—both the young man himself and the cat on his shoulder.

Just as Klein was hesitating whether to turn around and leave, Miss Angelica suddenly noticed him and immediately waved:

"Good afternoon, Mr. Moretti. You've arrived at just the right time. This gentleman wishes to have a divination..."
