Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Becoming an Adventurer

After gaining a general understanding of this world, Yoru finally understood why the girl had tried to tear off his clothes earlier.

As it turns out, after forming a contract with a god and becoming a Familia member, one officially becomes an adventurer—gaining attributes, skills, and even magic.

And all of these were displayed clearly as stats on the back of a Familia member.

"Hurry, hurry, Yoru! Let me see your status already! You just cast magic earlier, so your base stats must be amazing, right?"

"Yes, yes, I got it, my dear goddess."

Yoru sighed helplessly and lay face-down on the bed, pulling up his shirt.

"Oooh, let's see… these stats… um…"

"What's wrong? Is there something weird about them?"

Yoru turned his head, curious. Hestia's face looked strange—confused, maybe even a little troubled.

"How should I put this… Strength, Endurance, Dexterity, and Agility are all at the lowest rank, I-level. Well, that's normal for a rookie, but… why is your Magic stat… just a question mark?!"

"Uh, what kind of rank is a question mark?"

"A question mark means even I, a goddess, can't read it! That's not right! That's not normal at all! That's not scientific—or magical! How can a basic stat show up as unreadable?!"

Hestia stared in disbelief, then looked further down. The Skill section was empty, but under the Magic section… there was something.

"As I thought! You do have magic, Yoru! Gaining magic right after forming a contract—that's amazing! Let's see what kind it is… um… 'Unclean Frost ???'?"

Hestia froze up again after reading the name.

Unclean Frost—was it an ice-type spell? But what were those three question marks at the end? Just like the Magic stat, another anomaly she couldn't read.

"Unclean Frost…?"

Yoru repeated the name to himself. To be honest, it gave him a bad feeling.

It was as if… there was a version of himself—one he hated—cold, emotionless, made entirely of frost.

A blurry past buried deep beneath layers of ice… If possible, Yoru never wanted that version of himself to resurface.

"Well, no matter what, you have magic now! That's huge! You know, there are people who don't gain magic even after reaching Level 2 or 3! Hmm… judging by your stats, Yoru, you'd probably make a great mage!"

"A mage… me?"

Although Hestia sounded excited, Yoru still felt completely clueless. He didn't even know how to use magic, let alone train with it.

But that didn't matter. Whatever it was, so long as it gave him strength, that was enough.

Power that belonged solely to him, held in his own hands.

Although Yoru's stats and magic were strange, Hestia—being a bit of an airhead—didn't dwell on it. And Yoru himself had no idea what to make of it all.

To Hestia, Yoru was clearly a genius. And geniuses always had something different about them, right?

With all that sorted out, it was time for Yoru to officially start his journey as an adventurer—killing monsters, earning money, leveling up… and providing for his goddess.

When he learned that his dear goddess had been running a street stall selling fried potatoes, Yoru had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing, though he still felt immense sympathy.

"What's wrong with fried potatoes?! Are you looking down on fried potatoes?! I'll have you know, they taste amazing! And running that stall really gave me a firsthand experience of how tough life can be!"

"Yes, yes, I understand, my goddess. Don't worry. I'll work hard and earn enough so you can eat more than just fried potatoes."

While comforting the girl who now looked like a cat with her tail stepped on, Yoru said this gently as they walked together into a grand building.

The Guild—also known as the Adventurers' Guild—was the largest organization in Orario that managed Dungeon-related matters. It provided services to adventurers, including exchanging magic stones and guiding newcomers.

Every rookie adventurer was assigned an advisor who would teach them about the Dungeon and its dangers, to prevent them from making reckless mistakes.

Eina Tulle was one such advisor—a half-elf. Known for her gentle nature and pretty face, she was very popular among male adventurers.

When Eina saw Hestia and Yoru enter the guild hall together, she immediately took notice of them.

"Welcome, Goddess Hestia. Oh? Did you finally recruit a Familia member?"

Eina knew of Hestia well enough—her image as a pitiful goddess with no Familia was rather well-known. But today, things seemed different.

"Of course! This is my Familia member—Yoru! So? Isn't he amazing?"

Hestia puffed out her chest proudly, while Eina could only shake her head with a soft smile.

"He certainly looks quite impressive. So, is he here for registration?"

"That's right! As of today, he's officially my adventurer!"

"Then please, come this way."

Eina gestured politely and led them onward. As she turned, she subtly observed Yoru.

From the moment he'd entered, he hadn't spoken a word—only silently watched the guild hall with calm, dark eyes.

And in that brief moment, Eina—who had met countless adventurers—felt something.

This young man might truly be… something special.
