Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Nebraska, United States, 2002, a young boy lays in front of the old cathode ray television set in his living room. Today, he's watching a cartoon show about super heros. Among a cast of Supermen, dark knights, and martians, is a man of speed. The man of speed to be more specific. The young boy knew his name all too well, the blue blur, also known as Oswald Odds. He could travel at incredible speed, take down bad guys, and most of all, he was adored by countless people. At the young age of 11, this boy knew the only thing he ever wanted to be was the blue blur.

Nebraska, 2004, the same young boy, now a teenager was testing his first experiment in his search for super speed. Standing in a field, all on his own, he strapped strange thruster-like devices to the backs of his legs. Getting down into a running position, he pressed a button on the side of the right device and began running. At first, he was just running at the normal speed you would expect of someone his age, then something changed. The thrusters on his legs engaged and began to push small amounts of wind out the back. There wasn't much improvement in his speed at first, but as the thruster warmed up and produced more and more wind, an onlooker could almost swear he was speeding up… That was until the right thruster burst into flames. Before the boy even hit the ground, he was already ripping the device off.

Nebraska, 2005, the same teen, this time on a running track, his legs have new devices attached. Rotors on his knees move in tandem with his legs. As the teen runs faster, he pushes a button in his hands and the rotors emit a bright blue glow. Although there is no improvement in his speed, someone is still attentively watching him. The man, a larger sized adult, asks the teen if he'd ever considered trying out for the track team.

Pennsylvania, 2007, the same teen with a more athletic build, running again, this time, no weird technology attached to his legs. He is once again on a racetrack this time however, it's a racetrack at the Pennsylvania University. The teen is running for the Penn Track 400 meter sprint against a number of different highschoolers from across the United States. As the starting pistol is fired, the boy runs at the fastest speed he can possibly travel. Already, he's ahead of the group. Faster and faster he runs, looking straight ahead, the only thing on his mind is speed. Finally, still ahead, he makes it over the finish line and immediately stops to breathe. He has just won, among every teenager else is the country, he could actually claim to be the fastest. Where would he go from here?

Massachusetts, 2010, the same teen, burgeoning on becoming a man, now sits in a college classroom full of other students. As the professor hands back papers, we see the teen has gotten a score of 100. He smiles as he looks up, thankful for everything that has gotten him this far.

Nanjing, China, 2018, a top secret research lab is preparing to continue their latest project. Behind a glass wall is a large series of metal plates propped on beams to form a large orb around a single small metal pole sticking out of the ground. Looking through the glass, staring at the monstrous machine just beyond the pane, was the young teen from before, now a grown man. A young woman walked up behind the man.

"Dr. Ways, we're ready to ignite the engine."

The man, now known as Dr. Ways, turned around and looked the woman in the face.

"Then let's start her up, Dr. Dao."

Dr. Ways and the Dr. Dao walked besides each other to a large desk in the back of the room where several other men and women were sitting. There was a computer monitor, mouse, and keyboard, sitting on the desktop. Ways sat down in the chair in front of the monitor and Dao sat next to him. Before Ways was a program window that filled the entire monitor. All sorts of technical readouts were being displayed in the program. Ways looked over the data and confirmed everything he was looking at was according to his own parameters.

"Alright, we have reached one-hundred percent charge. My adjustments to the M.W.H. should allow the wormhole to stay open slightly longer than last time. Lastly, I have altered the electron injector to achieve the randomly generated coordinates of 31197-Y."

As he said this, Ways looked at a man wearing a formal business suit. The man silently nodded and Ways turned back to the computer monitor. As he grabbed the mouse on the desk, Ways moved the cursor on the screen over to the "EXECUTE" button.

"Now beginning test 27."

Ways clicked down on the mouse and instantaneously a large black hole appeared enclosed in the machine's metal panels.
