Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Birth After Death... in the Flames

The storm didn't arrive quietly.

It tore the sky open like a wound. Black clouds churned above Queens, boiling with fury. Lightning cracked down in jagged forks, one after another, painting the night in sharp, white flashes. Thunder growled low and deep, like some ancient beast had just awakened.

People had been warned to stay inside.

But five men moved through the storm anyway.

In a forgotten graveyard near the edge of the city, soaked to the bone, they trudged through mud and rain. All five wore classic SHIELD uniforms—black, tight, and unmistakable. The kind that once stood for order and protection.

But these men weren't here to protect anyone.

They were Hydra. Hidden inside SHIELD like a virus, quietly erasing anyone who got too close to the truth. Tonight, they were burying the latest mistake.

His name was Ash Mercer.

A SHIELD field agent. A good one. Until he dug too deep.

Four of the men were digging a pit, their boots sinking into the wet earth. The fifth man stood apart, near the coffin. His name was Wyatt Kane. Tall, angry, blood dripping from a long cut down his face. His right arm hung useless at his side—dislocated during a brutal fight with Mercer himself.

Kane flicked a silver lighter open with his good hand, shielding it from the rain. First try: nothing. Second: spark. Third:

Flame.

He lit his cigarette and took a long drag. Smoke curled from his mouth like steam from a cracked engine.

His eyes locked onto the black coffin beside him. Thick wood. Heavy. Reinforced. A false SHIELD emblem burned into its surface like an insult.

He looked at the chainsaw propped nearby.

Old. Rusted. Red.

He walked over, grabbed it, and yanked the cord.

Nothing.

Again.

Then—

ROOOAARRRRR.

The chainsaw screamed to life.

Kane smiled, eyes wide, wild.

He stepped up onto the coffin.

Then drove the blade in.

The sound of splintering wood mixed with a scream.

Blood sprayed out.

The digging stopped.

Inside, Ash Mercer twitched violently. His body was pale, soaked in blood. One arm was gone. His chest rose and fell, barely.

But his eyes were open.

And angry.

Ash looked through the new hole and met Kane's stare.

Then raised his middle finger.

Kane let out a short, humourless laugh. "Still breathing? You never knew when to quit."

He leaned down closer.

"Ash Mercer, you were SHIELD's best. And now? A traitor. Buried alive. Forgotten."

Ash smiled through the pain. Blood leaked from the corner of his mouth.

Then he spat.

Right into Kane's face.

Kane flinched back, wiping blood and spit from his cheek.

"SHIELD will find out," Ash said, voice shaking.

"They already think you're Hydra," Kane growled. "We rewrote everything. You could claw out of this coffin and they'd still put a bullet in your head."

He stepped back, voice low. "This? This is a mercy."

"Pit's ready!" one of the others shouted.

They dropped the coffin in.

Mud and rain poured in after it.

Kane looked down one last time. His hand clenched.

"I'll remember you, Mercer."

Then he turned and walked away.

The graveyard was still.

Then the sky cracked again.

The clouds twisted, forming a spiral. Lightning struck once more. But this time, it wasn't natural.

A column of black fire shot from the sky and hit the grave.

The ground exploded. Headstones shattered.

The coffin burst open.

Inside, Ash Mercer's body floated. Black flames wrapped around him like living chains. They slithered under his skin, through his veins, around his bones.

And then—

He screamed.

But not Ash.

Ash Mercer's soul was gone.

Something else had taken its place.

A new soul.

From another world.

He had died in his own universe—one filled with heroes and stories. A place where SHIELD, Hydra, and Deadpool were fiction.

And now, somehow, he was inside the corpse of Ash Mercer.

He didn't understand how. Not yet.

But he wasn't alone.

Inside the black fire, something else stirred.

A second soul. Shattered. Chaotic.

Wade Wilson.

Deadpool.

Or rather, a piece of him.

Dragged in by accident, caught in the storm that split two realities. Now forced to merge with a stranger from Earth.

The fire forced them together.

One soul tried to hold on to reason.

The other just wanted to set everything on fire and laugh.

Pain followed. Muscles twisted. Nerves lit up. Skin cracked and healed. The new soul screamed as the two minds fought for space.

And the system woke up.

A blue flicker.

Just for a second.

Then gone.

A dark bubble of energy formed around the grave. Inside, time slowed. Thirty minutes passed. Outside, only three seconds.

Then—

Silence.

The body dropped into the broken coffin.

Still. Smoking.

Breathing.

Fingers twitched.

They brushed something cold.

His severed arm.

DING.

A glowing blue screen blinked to life in front of his face.

Like a video game. Clear. Bright. Too real.
