Chapter 6 - Kaito’s Parents

"Meoww~" A black house cat purred as it's owner put on a dress, getting ready for college.

The said girl, Lucy, could not help but sigh, after all, from the moment she had picked Mochi from the streets a few days back, she had known that it was different.

The way it looked at her, the way it tried to help the girl whenever she fumbled, she always felt like this cat she had brought in just seemed too smart at everything.

She looked at the ball of black furs below her, Mochi had been doing this for two days now.

Everytime she started changing, it would starting acting weird and all wound up as if it could really understand what was happening.

"You dumb cat—I can't take you outside right now!! Lemme go to school first."

"Meow meow…" The boy cat in question, Mochi, or well; Kaito used one of his padded paws to cover his eyes while whimpering his throught out.

He had been trying to get out of the house and confirm for himself if he was really reincarnated in the same world he lived as Kaito or not.

But for that he needed to convince the half naked girl in front of her to take him to a walk.

Not to forget the first time he tried convincing her, he had scratched her by mistake, scraping a whole of 25 faith points from the system.

Kaito sighed, it had already been almost 10 days since he had arrived in this world, and although he had gained Lucy trust and finally started getting used to living with her…not knowing if he could really trust the system's words chipped at his mind.

He had been doing everything he could to gain faith points to awaken as fast as he could, but because he had scratched her leg by mistake yesterday, his points dipped by a lot, making him almost sigh.

Kaito wasn't giving up just yet.

Still lying on the floor near Lucy's feet, the black cat slowly rolled over, showing his belly. His big blue eyes widened as he stared up at her like a kicked puppy.

With one paw still covering his face dramatically, he gave the most pitiful meow he could manage.

"Meow~"

He even added a little tail flick, being very proud of finally being able to control his tail a little now.

Lucy, halfway through tying her hair into a messy bun, paused to look down at him.

Her lips twitched. For a second, Kaito thought he had won. But then she crossed her arms.

"You're not tricking me with that drama, Mochi," she said, raising a brow. "You always start acting weird whenever I get dressed."

She grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder.

Kaito sat up and meowed again, pawing at the door now, giving his best impression of a cat begging to be let out.

"Seriously?" Lucy said, placing her hands on her juicy hips. "You're starting this again?"

Kaito blinked. Then, slowly and deliberately, turned his back to her and plopped down in front of the door, pretending to sulk.

He kept his head low and tail flat like he'd just been told Santa wasn't real.

The silent protest.

It was his final move.

Lucy narrowed her eyes at the tiny black ball of sadness in front of her.

"Oh come on," she muttered. "You're acting like I just crushed your dreams."

She walked up behind him and leaned down, gently poking his back with her finger.

Kaito didn't move.

She sighed. "Mochi… I can't take you with me right now, okay? College isn't a place for cats. You'll get stepped on or lost or… I don't know, snatched by a professor doing weird science stuff."

The boy cat didn't budge, if he really had reincarnated into the same world he remembers then there was no such rule anymore that the students couldn't bring their pets to college.

He remembered how some colleges did allow pets, provided students paid a small daycare fee but it wasn't anything expensive that the girl couldn't afford.

Hell, Kaito rememberd some standard pet daycare's being worth half a dollar for the whole day.

Anyways, Lucy looked up at the ceiling as if asking the universe for patience, then looked back down.

"Alright, alright!" she finally said. "We'll go for a walk tomorrow, okay?"

The black cat's ears perked up.

"Tomorrow. After my classes. A proper walk. You can sniff the sidewalk or stare at pigeons or whatever it is you're dying to do out there."

Kaito's head turned slowly, eyes glinting with quiet victory. With a light purr, he rubbed against her leg in thanks.

Lucy groaned.

"I swear, you're not normal. You're way too dramatic for a regular cat."

She turned around and made her way toward the door.

"I'm already late. Don't destroy the house while I'm gone, alright?"

Kaito gave a soft meow and curled up near the door, satisfied—for now.

As soon as she stepped out and locked the door behind her, the system screen flickered in front of him again.

(Congrats! You have managed to convince your owner to take you for a walk!! That's a leap in faith. +10 points)

Stretching his body in joy, Kaito willed his system open.

Just as Kaito was about to relax and do some house chores to impress the girl again and fish some Faith Points, another notification box appeared in front of him.

(Your Faith Level is dangerously low due to not having established your cult yet. Reminder: Start your cult in the next 20 days. Penalty for Failure: ??)

Kaito narrowed his eyes at the glowing message, this was not the first time this message was appearing in front of him.

He'd done everything by the book. Played the cute cat.

Stayed polite.

Didn't scratch her again, but one thing that he had yet to figure out was how to make whatever this cult thingy was.

'Well, atleast I'd finally get to see the world tomorrow…' The black cat thought as he yawned.

He needed to confirm something—anything. The layout of the streets, the buildings, the signs or even the people.

All he needed was some reassurance that the world he had reincarnated in was the same he had lived in as Kaito.

Because if that's true…

The black cat's eyes shone with a glint.

'That would mean I still have a chance to find my parents—'
