Chapter 6 - True Beginning

The second gift arrived seconds after the voice disappeared and the world plunged back into chaos.

The second gift appeared in form of a floating holographic window and an emotionless feminine robotic voice.

|| Good day, host, I'm Aria, your virtual assistant sent here to assist and support you on your grand quest of survival and power ||

Draven watched the holographic window and paid attention to the emotionless yet gentle feminine robotic voice.

As someone who had delved into the world of countless web novels, he needed no expert to explain his new gift to him.

"Aria, is my character status ready?"

|| Yes ||

Aria responded, confirming his concern. Draven nodded his head responsively and quickly requested to see his character status.

|| STAT DESCRIPTIONS COMPLETE ||

Thanks to the explanation provided, Draven quickly understood the basics of his system. Especially the exclusive function, sacrifice.

While it possessed such a lengthy cooldown time of a whole day, Draven still rejoiced that he owned such an asset.

But he wasn't satisfied.

His eyes fell back to the soul blade in his grasp. He could not hold back his curiosity about the beautiful dagger and asked Aria about it.

|| The Soul Blade is an artifact of infinite mysteries and power. As your main aspect, your survival and power growth greatly depends on it ||

Draven already knew about that as the voice did not forget to point out just how magnificent it was before it disappeared so he asked Aria to go deeper.

|| The soul blade absorbs the souls of slayed enemies and grows stronger, increasing the damage dealt. After crossing preset thresholds, it unlocks variety of Sub-Aspects inclusive of special boosts and skills. ||

"Wow?"

Draven was excited after seeing the new information provided.

He had read only a handful of peak novels with powers similar to the soul blade. But not even in his wildest dream would he imagine he would be the sole owner of one.

|| A series of quest to maintain a neverending growth has been determined. Your first quest would appear in the next three seconds ||

|| You can access active quest and progressed through the 'Quest' tab that would appear on your character status. ||

Aria's voice revealed, following her revelation, Draven first ever quest followed.

TRIAL QUEST

—Slay 20 Tier I Undeads

—REWARDS

+0.2 Physique, +1 Skill, Unlock next evolutionary stage of Soul Blade

"As long as there is no deadline, slaying 20 zombies shouldn't be that difficult," Draven concluded, "And the rewards are superbs. I can't wait to start killing zombies with my sword."

Draven looked around his room once more. With the pale glow of the dark sky, his scattered room lay bare — The rotten and disgusting corpse of the zombie, head smashed beyond recognition, lay on the ground.

A strong stench assailed his nostrils, erupting from the rotten flesh of the dead zombies.

"I don't think I can even survive in this room for thirty minutes. Even if zombies doesn't attack, I'll most likely die from inhaling these blood churning rotten stench," Draven grumbled.

He prepared himself to exit the room and go explore the world outside. With the second chance granted and the dagger in his grasp, he planned to pave his path to survival and power, carefully.

Draven went into his luggage that was scattered on the ground. Fortunately, none of the zombie blood had stained the clothes inside.

He quickly changed into a new set of clothes consisting of a comfortable black pants and black long sleeve button-down shirt.

He grabbed his backpack from the ground and stored one set of neat clothing inside.

There were two cans of water laying on the ground. He grabbed them and stored them in his bag pack.

Unfortunately, he had no food substance in his room as the school forbade students from bringing food to their dorm.

|| Host is truly prepared! ||

Aria voice echoed, attempting to cheer him up. Nevertheless, her emotionless robotic voice made it almost impossible to tell if they were actual cheering or mere words.

Draven smiled gently, "You can address me as Draven from now on, Aria. We would be together for a very long time, maybe forever, so start addressing me dearly."

|| Noted! ||

|| By the way, Draven, you are forgetting something. ||

Draven scanned the room and frowned, "What am I forgetting?"

|| It would be better if you find out yourself. Scan the head of the zombies you have slayed thoroughly, you might have to dig your hands inside those puddles of rot. But it's worth it. ||

Draven quickly frowned. Why should he do something as disgusting as that?

|| You would thank me afterwards, Draven. ||

Aria prompted with the little cheer of hers.

"You should've informed me before I changed into this new clothes."

Draven complained as he began removing his clothes, leaving on his underwear. Then he strolled towards the closest zombie corpse, belonging to the half-torso zombie he slayed by smashing its head with his foot.

Observing the corpse, Draven realized what a mess he had made.

But he had no choice.

He furrowed his brows and shrunk his nose. Then he dug his hand into the irritating content that now remain as the head of the zombie.

Except the slushy disgusting content, Draven felt nothing special as he ran his hand through the rotten puddle.

"Wait I felt something."

Draven felt his hand running past something exceptionally hard and somewhat crystal like. He quickly dug his hand back into the position and brought it out, revealing a small object.

It was a tiny red crystal that barely fits between his two fingers. It looked ordinary and somewhat unique at the same time.

"What is this?"

|| It is called a Blood Crystal. It serves as an energy source to the undead. ||

Draven observed the tiny blood crystal while listening to Aria's explanation and then asked, "You made me dig through that disgusting corpse, surely it has some uses."

|| Yes, the blood crystal serves as your trophy for killing the undeads and thus can be offered using SACRIFICE I to obtain random rewards. ||

|| You can also consume the blood crystal. However, there is an 90% probability of getting corrupted and 10% of gaining stat points. ||

Draven shivered seeing the difference in probability.

"I'll store it to sacrifice later."

He concluded as activating sacrifice now would only mean that he would have to wait for another twenty four hours before using it again.

It would be more advantageous to stack up the blood crystal and sacrifice later. The quantity might trigger a more unique reward.
