"Could I borrow your phone, please?"
As the truck started moving again, George immediately asked Gabriela.
Before thinking about how to rescue Tony Stark, he needed to thoroughly understand the history and relevant situation of this world to make more accurate judgments and a more complete plan.
And the fastest way to do that in this era was naturally to use a phone to access the internet.
"Of course, here."
Gabriela didn't hesitate, pulling out her phone from her pocket and handing it to George.
Taking the phone, George began searching online for the information he wanted to understand. He didn't return the phone to Gabriela until the truck entered the Mexican border and the sky gradually darkened.
"So that's how it is."
Actually, the history of this universe wasn't much different from the movie universe, just with the addition of some mutant elements.
According to online news reports, mutants truly became known to the public in 1973.
The mutant Mystique attempted to assassinate Bolivar Trask, but was ultimately stopped. Mystique became a hero for mutants, and humans gradually began to accept the existence of mutants.
In 1977, Quicksilver broke 8 world records in sports competitions, and the sports world began to ban mutants from professional sports.
This conflicted with the movie universe, because according to the movie universe, Quicksilver was not yet born that year; both Quicksilver and Wanda were born in 1990 in the movie universe.
This also reminded him that in the future, many things could not be fully dealt with according to the movie plots he had seen.
Afterward, the superhero organization X-Men was highly praised by the public, and a large number of spin-off comics about the X-Men appeared. The one the little wolf girl and the others had was one of them.
Many stories in it were adapted from real X-Men events, but there was also a lot of fiction, such as the so-called Garden of Eden.
In 1983, the Apocalypse event occurred. Shortly after it ended, the Westchester incident broke out. Professor X suffered a sudden seizure, his brain went out of control, and he killed all the X-Men except Wolverine, as well as the mutant students at the school, plus over six hundred innocent humans in the surrounding area.
Since then, Professor X was listed by the U.S. government as a "weapon of mass destruction" and became a wanted man. Mutants began to disappear.
Now, more than twenty years later, most humans have forgotten the existence of mutants, and many of the new generation even only consider them fictional characters from comics.
Governments around the world, for some unknown reason, have also been downplaying the history of mutant existence, seemingly wanting to prove that the government is humanity's greatest reliance, not some mutant superheroes.
And before 1973, there was almost no news of any mutant existence. This is why in 1943, Steve Rogers became Captain America through the Super Soldier Serum and defeated Hydra.
Presumably, at that time, Wolverine and Sabretooth were still ordinary soldiers with little fame, Professor X and Magneto were still children, and the Hellfire Club was hidden in the shadows.
"Have you ever thought about trying to find Wolverine and Professor X, who might still be alive?"
At this point, George already had a rough plan in mind.
Although the history of this universe had many conflicts with what he knew, generally some things hadn't changed. He couldn't completely rely on known information, but he also couldn't completely abandon his advantage in this area.
At least the initial reason for Tony Stark's kidnapping was most likely Obadiah Stane, who wanted to kill Tony Stark and monopolize Stark Industries.
However, his psychic abilities were not yet sufficient to read information about the Ten Rings from Obadiah Stane, and thus find the location where Tony Stark was held. Professor X would be needed for that.
Professor X, due to his seizures, would occasionally lose control of his brain, but under medication, he had improved greatly, and his mind was mostly clear in most situations.
Perhaps he couldn't be as powerful as before, but simple mind-reading should still be possible.
After all, he could still chat with the little wolf girl from a distance from time to time.
With Wolverine as a human shield, combined with his abilities, rescuing Tony Stark wouldn't be difficult.
Although Wolverine was old, when he got serious, he wasn't someone ordinary terrorists could stop. Besides, when Gabriela escaped, she brought several potions that could temporarily enhance mutant abilities, which could help Wolverine regain some of his strength.
And most importantly, both of them had rich experience in planning and executing missions, something he, Gabriela, and this group of mutant children lacked.
To be honest, in this foreign country, he himself was completely in the dark, even less knowledgeable than Gabriela.
"We've thought about it. We've been looking for news about them, but we only heard that someone who looked like Wolverine was a driver in El Paso, and there were no other leads.
And we thought about it, Professor X is also a wanted criminal, so he might not be able to help us."
Gabriela replied helplessly.
George nodded upon hearing this. In some respects, Gabriela's thoughts weren't wrong; Wolverine and Professor X were indeed struggling to protect themselves.
"I have a plan now. If it succeeds, then in the future, the children might not need to be controlled by anyone and can live like normal people..."
Without any concealment, he fully explained his plan to Gabriela.
His idea was simple: if Gabriela agreed, he would be willing to put in more effort to help, considering it an investment for the future.
If Gabriela disagreed, he wouldn't force it. He wasn't a do-gooder; after delivering the children to their destination, he would leave alone to complete his plan and then settle down in New York.
Besides, his choice might not necessarily be the best for the children; perhaps they would be better off in Canada.
Hearing George's plan, Gabriela fell into deep thought.
At this moment, her heart was very conflicted, because truthfully, she didn't have much faith in the Canadian government. As a Mexican who grew up in Juárez, she found it very difficult to have much faith in any government.
But the plan George proposed also carried great risks.
If George and his group ultimately failed to rescue Tony Stark, and they missed their agreed time with the Canadian government, the children would surely be captured by the experimental base personnel and brutally killed.
Also, would Wolverine and Professor X be willing to help?
Noticing Gabriela's internal struggle, George added:
"If Wolverine and Professor X are unwilling to help, or if we can't return by five o'clock on Friday, then you should proceed with the original plan and cross the border into Canada."
Today was Saturday. There were six days until next Friday. If all went well, six days would be enough for them to rescue Tony Stark.
"Okay, George, thank you so much!"
Gabriela nodded gratefully.
Actually, George could have left on his own without helping them. With George's abilities and the intelligence he displayed, escaping the lab's pursuit wouldn't be difficult.
But he chose to stay and help them, finding a way for them to live better lives.
"You're welcome. Speaking of it, I'm just like them, an experiment from the base. You could say I'm their older brother."
George said with a smile, sighing.
"Actually, according to the time of creation, you should be the youngest among them."
Gabriela seemed to have thought of something and suddenly laughed.
George couldn't help but smile at that. Yes, considering that his body had been created less than a year ago, he truly was the youngest mutant in the lab.
