Chapter 35 - 35

## Chapter 35 – The Unseen Battle

The palace was alive with restless energy. Servants hurried through corridors carrying messages, guards sharpened their weapons, and nobles whispered urgently behind closed doors. The news from the neighboring kingdom had stirred a storm that no one could ignore.

Zara felt the tension coil in her stomach as she watched Damon prepare for what might be the greatest challenge of his life. He was a prince forged by fire, but even he couldn't face war without scars.

That morning, Damon summoned her to the war room—a chamber lined with maps, strategy boards, and advisors speaking in low voices. The walls echoed with the weight of decisions that would shape the fate of the kingdom.

"You should not be here," Damon said, his voice a mix of concern and command.

Zara met his eyes, steady. "I am your wife. I will be where you need me."

He studied her, searching for hesitation. Finding none, he nodded.

The council debated fiercely, the air thick with strategy and suspicion. Zara listened closely, absorbing every word, every plan. She realized then that her role was more than ceremonial. She had to be a pillar—not only for Damon but for the kingdom.

When the meeting ended, Damon pulled her aside.

"This war will change everything," he said quietly. "I need you to stay safe."

Zara shook her head. "No. I want to be part of this."

He looked at her with a mixture of admiration and frustration. "Your place is here, not on the battlefield."

"Then let me be your strength here," she said, voice firm. "Together, we can face it all."

Days later, as the army gathered on the outskirts of the kingdom, Zara stood among the soldiers. She wore armor trimmed with silver, the weight unfamiliar but empowering.

Damon approached, his face grim but proud.

"You look different," he said, a rare smile touching his lips.

"Like a warrior," she replied.

He took her hand. "Then fight with me. Not with swords, but with your heart."

The battle that followed was brutal. Thunderous clashes echoed through the valleys, and the air was thick with smoke and dust. Damon led his men with fierce determination, while Zara coordinated the supply lines and tended to the wounded.

Late one evening, as the camp quieted, Zara found Damon staring at the stars, his face drawn and weary.

"You carry the weight of a kingdom," she said softly.

He nodded. "And sometimes, it feels unbearable."

She stepped closer. "You don't have to bear it alone."

Damon looked at her, the walls around him cracking.

"Thank you," he whispered.

The war raged on, but so did their bond. In stolen moments, they shared stories, fears, and dreams. Zara learned that beneath Damon's armor was a man desperate for connection.

One night, as rain poured over the camp, Damon pulled Zara into a shelter.

"We may lose everything," he said, voice low. "But not each other."

Zara held him tight. "We will survive. Together."

---

Weeks later, victory was declared. The enemy retreated, and peace returned to the kingdom.

At the royal court, Damon announced reforms inspired by Zara's wisdom—efforts to heal the wounds of war and unite their people.

Zara stood beside him, no longer timid, but a queen in her own right.

Their journey was far from over, but together, they had weathered the unseen battle—the battle within themselves.
