Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Skill Editor

Morning in Konoha.

Dragging his exhausted body along the village streets, Hirakawa Yuuki made his way toward the Ninja Academy.

The aching muscles throughout his body constantly tempted him to just collapse right then and there for some much-needed rest.

But Yuuki had long since grown used to this.

Ever since he realized that even after reincarnating into the Naruto world, he was still just an ordinary person, Yuuki had made it his routine to run out to the outskirts of Konoha before dawn to train.

He pinned his hopes on the idea that "the early bird gets the worm"—that sheer hard work might help him catch up to the geniuses at the academy.

Unfortunately, Yuuki had overlooked one crucial fact.

The Shinobi World was a place where bloodlines and talent reigned supreme. No matter how hard someone with poor talent tried, in the end, it made little difference.

And besides, the geniuses weren't standing still either.

All his desperate efforts had only managed to let him barely catch sight of their backs as they pulled further ahead.

Today was Thursday. There would be a practical combat class in the afternoon.

Barring some miracle, Yuuki fully expected to suffer another crushing defeat.

But today felt different.

Because today, Yuuki finally saw a glimmer of hope.

As a transmigrator, of course, he had his own cheat—his golden finger.

With just a thought, a translucent panel appeared before his eyes.

[Input Field]

[Input Field]

Extreme Reflexes: (Progress: 99%)

This was the Skill Editor.

As the name implied, its purpose was to let him create all sorts of skills that could actually be used in reality.

The operation was simple.

The panel had only two input fields and a single loading progress bar.

Type the skill name into the first box, describe the skill's effect in the second, hit confirm, and the name would appear next to the progress bar below as the loading process began.

Yuuki had discovered this strange tool eight years ago, right after arriving in this world. Without hesitation, he had immediately used it to design a skill that would enhance his reflexes.

He'd planned to create a second skill right afterward. But when he filled the input fields with descriptions of all sorts of overpowered abilities and hit confirm again—nothing happened.

That's when Yuuki realized there was a reason for that progress bar: the editor could only load one skill at a time.

And now, after eight long years of waiting, that single skill's loading progress had finally reached its final stage.

Yuuki couldn't help but wonder—what kind of change would this skill bring him?

The sun was rising on the horizon, casting its light across the great Hokage Rock that overlooked the village. The gates of the Ninja Academy appeared in Yuuki's sight.

He drew in a deep breath of the crisp morning air and strode directly toward the school.

Creak—

Yuuki slid the door open and stepped into the classroom, sweeping his gaze around.

Most of the students were from prestigious ninja clans:

The cold-faced kid with the ping-pong paddle symbol on his back, the boy with Byakugan glaring at everyone, the pineapple-haired one snoozing on his desk, the chubby kid devouring rice balls, the one with sharp fangs playing with a puppy...

And over there—almost forgotten in the corner—sat the gloomy boy with his face hidden behind sunglasses, as if he came with his own "low presence" special effect.

A motley bunch of ninja hopefuls, to say the least.

Yuuki had decent rapport with his classmates; quite a few greeted him as he entered.

He returned their greetings one by one, then made his way to his usual seat by the window at the back.

The moment he sat down, a wave of relief washed over him. The fatigue from his morning training seemed to ease a little.

It was like taking a sip of iced tea on a scorching summer day, or curling up in a warm bed on a freezing winter night...

The morning passed quickly.

After finishing his packed lunch, Yuuki lay down for the academy's half-hour midday break.

Ding!

Just as Yuuki was drifting into sleep, a familiar notification sound jolted him awake.

It sounded almost identical to the completion chime of a download app from his past life.

Heart racing, Yuuki quickly opened the Skill Editor panel.

Sure enough, the skill [Extreme Reflexes] was ready.

[Extreme Reflexes] (Click skill name to install)

Yuuki could barely contain his excitement as he tapped the skill's name.

The text on the panel faded out—then reappeared.

[Extreme Reflexes] (Installed)

The skill had successfully loaded. Yuuki immediately looked around, eager to see what had changed.

The effect he had written for [Extreme Reflexes] was simple: push his reaction speed to the absolute limit.

And now, that's exactly what had happened—his ability to observe his surroundings had improved dramatically.

The world seemed to slow to a crawl before his eyes.

A classmate, mid-yawn, arms raised and face twisted comically, froze in place. Another, mid-leap, seemed to hover in the air, legs moving in slow motion. Out on the training field, a kunai traced an agonizingly slow arc through the sky.

Falling leaves outside the window, a fluffed-up orange cat in the corner, dust motes dancing in the sunlight—

Everything appeared as if someone had hit the slow-motion button on reality itself.

In this slowed perspective, if Yuuki were facing an enemy, he'd have ample time to decide exactly how to react.

Of course, his own body moved just as slowly as the world he saw.

[Extreme Reflexes] boosted his ability to process information—but it didn't make him physically faster.

The break flew by.

Creak—

The classroom door slid open again, and the homeroom instructor entered, rousing everyone from their nap.

He led the class out to the training field.

Once everyone had lined up neatly, the teacher began pairing them off for sparring practice.

"Minato Namikaze versus Choza Akimichi."

"Fugaku Uchiha versus Hiashi Hyuga."

"..."

"Hirakawa Yuuki versus Yuichi Uchiha."

Yuuki blinked in surprise. His eyes instinctively sought out his assigned opponent.

To his surprise, Yuichi Uchiha was already watching him.

Their gazes met.

Yuuki, still adjusting to the terrifying clarity brought by his new skill, didn't react at all to Yuichi's stare.

Yuichi, for his part, regarded Yuuki with the typical Uchiha pride, giving him a look of utter disdain—as if Yuuki wasn't even worth his attention.

And Yuuki couldn't really blame him. Before today, his strength truly posed no threat to Yuichi.

But...

Today was different.

If Yuichi judged him by his past performance, he was in for quite the surprise.

"Form the Seal of Opposition."

Following the instructor's command, Minato and Choza stepped forward to perform the standard pre-bout gesture.

The match began at once, launching straight into high-intensity action.

Choza transformed into his clan's signature Human Bullet Tank, his massive body smashing against the ground with thunderous force.

Minato, lacking an attack strong enough to break through Choza's defense, could only rely on rapid Body Flicker moves to dodge.

Yuuki stood in line, watching the fight.

His natural talent for combat had always been poor. His reactions were slower than his peers', and during past sparring classes, he could barely follow what was happening.

But now, after eight long years of waiting, he finally had his first skill.

And everything was different.

Choza's face twisted in exertion as he maintained his jutsu, veins bulging on his forehead, his whole face straining with effort.

Minato's brows were furrowed in frustration at his inability to counterattack effectively.

Yuuki took in every detail, clear as day.

And at last, a smile spread across his face.

Because now, he could see it all.
