Chapter 1 - Chapter 1, Boss

"And like Kanye said" Carson looked around, his confused classmates' faces staring back at him. "I'm Nice at ping pong." Carson stated before walking off the stage, a few pity chuckles were heard in the crowd after his speech was over, before a shorter woman came up.

"Ha" she chuckled into the Mic. "Well folks, that concludes our 2125 senior class graduation, I believe that each and everyone of these students has the pote-"

By this point Carson had already started tuning her voice out. Only when he heard "you may move your tassels to the left" did he finally clock back in.

Without hesitation Carson got up to leave, from behind a boy approached "Carson, what the hell does "im nice at ping pong" even mean, and who is kanye?"

Carson shook his head while walking, his dreads covering his eyes. "Just the man who made the most beautiful music ever made, have you ever listened to graduation?" The boy shook his head in confusion.

"Then you wouldn't understand," Carson patted Lamar's shoulder. "One day we may meet again, and when that time comes I'll show you the peak of history," Carson turned away, his hair swaying to the side.

"Dude can you actually cut the "nuncallent" stuff out, no one knows what you're doing." Lamar said before starting again, "And we live next to each other anyway, not to mention we're going to the same college too?" Carson turned around.

"Ok for one, is NON-CHALANT, type shi" Carson stepped towards Lamar, "And 2 you don't know what i'm doing, or where i'm going, because" before Carson could finish Lamar walked in front of him. "Don't care, i'm going home, i'm hungry, are you coming for dinner tonight" Lamar said, walking away from Carson.

"Nah, imma do my own thing" Before Carson could finish Lamar called from in front of him. "No one understands you, my door will be open." Lamar said, bending the corner in front of him.

Carson looked at Lamar walking away from him before turning around and running towards an alley way. With little difficulty he jumped from a trash bin to a roof, pulling his hood over his head as he navigated the roof tops.

"If only you knew what i knew" Carson continued running, jumping from roof top to roof top. The sky was starting to turn dark again, signaling for Carson to come back to his base.

With a leap Carson jumped down into a hole near the outskirts of the city, covered perfectly by heaps of garbage, or what Carson would call, relics. "Hey boss, i'm back" In front of him lay a robot, its screen barely flickering. "Hello user, what can i do for you today"

"Haha, very funny boss" Carson took out a usb from a trash pile next to him. "Sorry to have to keep doing this but, it's still too risky." Carson took the usb and inserted it into the robot. Instantly the air seemed to change, becoming more sinister.

The robot began to stand, its joints spinning in and out. Unrusting itself from seemingly years of inactivity.

"I got everything you wanted me too boss, can you show me more now?" Carson said, his eyes pleading while exposing his hands, showing wires and copper he'd been stealing from old appliances. The robot stared at Carson, before looking in his palms, an expression of what Carson could only refer to as a smile appeared on the robot's screen.

"Good, human," The robot, or Boss as Carson called it, took the wires before opening a chest component, a wired hand took the wires and dragged them into his chest, the turning of gears could be heard before the robot spoke. "I have a better gift for you today, human."

Carson's eyes lit up at that information, "ooh, do I get to see a movie?" Carson's eyes widened in joy, The robot, The boss looked down on Carson, had it been human pity would be displayed in his eyes. "Something, a little better than that, Come here".

The Boss gestured towards an old doctor's seat, almost like a makeshift operating table. Carson looked at the table before looking back at The Boss.

A smile beamed across his face. "Wait, is today the day?" Carson's smile threatened to split his face open as he bounded towards the operating table. "Your humanness is holding you back, you need to upgrade." Carson laid on the table giddiness in his eyes.

"Yes boss, does this mean I can see more of the past?" The boss looked down at Carson as his chest compartment opened. "Yes" a wired hand reached inside of the compartment before taking out a metal device, a core.

"Boss, isn't that a core like you have?" Though Carson had only seen it once, he remembered his boss having an orb deep inside of him, only being seen when he opened his chest.

"YEs,It wiLl help you AdaApt" The boss started moving faster, as sense of urgency in his movements, very quickly The Boss pulled open Carson's shirt before placing the orb inside where his belly button laid. The orb shined for a second before merging with Carson's skin, A Burning sensation overtook Carson's body.

"Agh" Carson doubled over on the operating table in pain, clutching his stomach while sweating, his veins near his chest and stomach glowing a bright orange.

"D-Don't worry boss, I can handle it" The Boss stood still, his screen beginning to glitch, shifting from black and white to different colors on the spectrum.

Carson struggled through the pain as he stood up. "I'll bring better stuff next time boss" Carson took the usb from out of the boss's head, The boss's body stopped moving, before slowly falling backwards.

"Don't worry I got you" Carson held the Robot's body, before gently laying him down onto the ground in the position he was previously in.

Carson set the usb on the garbage pile next to him, before heading out Carson quickly turned around. "Damn i forgot to ask what the core does" As he said that the Robot's screen booted up, "Hello user, what can i do for you today"

Usually Carson would ignore the robot. He may have had the same body as the boss, but he wasn't THE boss.

Despite his usual opinions Carson spoke to the screen. "What is the core inside me used for?" The robot screen flickered in and out for a second before a beam of light scanned Carson up and down. "No core detected user" Carson sighed before lifting his shirt. "The Boss would've detected it." With no response the screen scanned him again.

"The core installed is used for transferring information, increasing physical capabilities, and staying in peak physical condition." Carson read the message the screen typed before speaking. "So this is what the boss meant by upgrade"

Carson pulled his shirt down, before looking down. "I'll need to find a way to hide this though." Carson stared at the orange glow from inside his shirt. Body modification was banned unless the army gave permission, and he wasn't planning on joining any time soon.
