Nova was late.

Her phone buzzed.
A message.
Nova: Running late. Hold tight. I'm coming.
Bea swallowed, forcing calm she didn't feel. She wasn't sure if the promise was enough. Not tonight.
Then, a noise.
Not the knock she expected.
A shattering glass, the sharp crack of danger breaking through the quiet.
Bea's breath caught.
"Bea!" Nova's voice cut through the dark as she burst through the door, fierce and unstoppable.
Behind her, the intruder loomed.
