"You wouldn't dare!" Chloe's voice cracked with disbelief as I held the phone to my ear.
But I never got the chance to finish that call.
"Hang up that phone right now!" she screamed, her face twisted with rage. "You think you can threaten me? You think you can steal from my family and get away with it?"
I ended the call and slipped the phone back into my robe pocket. "I told you, I didn't steal anything."
"Liar!" She stepped closer, jabbing her finger toward my chest. "Eight hundred thousand dollars, Noah! That watch is worth more than you'll make in your entire pathetic life!"
Her voice echoed through the hallway, each word dripping with the same contempt she'd shown me throughout our marriage. But this time, instead of cowering or apologizing, I felt nothing but cold amusement.
"You really think that little of me, don't you?" I asked calmly.
"I know exactly what you are! A nobody! A delivery driver who got lucky enough to marry into my family, and this is how you repay us?"
