Chapter 1 - Family

Sunlight shines on the bustling streets of the city of Greenhaven as people bustle through the streets. Whether they were walking to work, going for a drink, or perhaps hanging out with friends.

A young boy with shoulder-length black hair and black eyes that carried a hint of crimson sped through the sidewalk. He passed many people with unique features. There is a man with his hair changing color every other second, a girl with purple hair, a man with rocks covering his fist, and so much more.

But the young boy did not stop to marvel at these people. Instead, he sped towards a man with short-styled black hair and red eyes wearing a blue suit; the man stood distracted while looking at his phone. The young boy flung himself at the man while shouting.

"DAD!"

"Hey, what the Wait, Ariel?"

The older man ignored the stares people were giving them as he chuckled and ruffled Ariel's hair.

"You little brat, what are you doing here, and where is your mother?"

"I'm here."

The man turned his head to the left and saw a beautiful sight. A woman walked in heels and wore a white summer dress, her long blue hair swaying with the wind as she locked her black eyes with the man. The two stared at each other for a moment as if looking at the world itself.

"Elara, you look stunning."

She let out a small laugh that seemed to light up her face as she responded with a smile brighter than the sun.

"Oh, Marcus, you're such a charmer."

The two let out a light laugh, but the moment was interrupted by a certain kid.

"Dad, Mom said we are going to get treats after you get off work!"

"Oh, is that so? Then I just might know a place where we can get something."

"Dad Furukawa's bread shop doesn't count; their food tastes weird."

Marcus let out a light laugh and ruffled Ariel's hair again. He opened his mouth again as if he was about to say something, but was cut off by Elara.

"Now, dear, we have some of their . . . unique bread at home. How about we get ice cream instead?"

"Fair point, though it's starting to get cloudy, reminds me of cotton candy, but ice cream is a good replacement."

The three made their way through the crowded street as they talked. Shortly after, they walked into a store called Tsun Scoops. Making their way to the front with familiarity, they quickly paid and grabbed their ice cream while finding a table to sit at.

Ariel turned his attention to his rainbow sherbet, which would not last very long. Marcus and Elara sat just opposite Ariel and were whispering to each other.

Sigh

"I know Marcus, it's just. . . the doctors still don't know what his quirk is, and it's been two weeks."

Marcus placed his hand on top of hers and spoke with a gentle whisper.

"I know you're concerned, but look at him, he's healthy and that's all that matters, and the time taken well, that just means he's unique. He's our special kid."

Elara looked into Marcus's eyes as if looking for more answers, but all she saw was the support of the man she loved. She sat there for a moment, lost in thought, but before long she spoke.

"You know I've got amazing taste in men."

Marcus let out a chuckle before quipping.

"I do my best, after all, I wanted to be good enough for the girl who is currently losing her ice cream."

She started to laugh, but his words sank in, and she turned her head to see Ariel reaching over the table with a spoon, picking at her Raspberry Sorbet. She let out a dramatic gasp as Marcus laughed at her predicament.

Elara reached over the table and squeezed Ariel's cheek while playfully scolding him. Marcus silently watched the scene with warmth in his eyes as he licked his mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Before long, the three finished their ice cream and started heading out of the store. Stepping out of the building, Marcus turned his gaze skyward and said.

"It's sprinkling."

He turned his gaze to Ariel and Elara, who were holding hands while talking he quickly interrupted.

"As much as I agree with the fact that gang orca is cool, it seems we get to have a surprise slipping slide if we aren't careful."

Ariel and Elara noticed the pattering of raindrops hitting the ground. Elara turned to speak to Marcus with a playful remark.

"If anyone is going to have a problem with the rain, it's you, after all, isn't that the suit you bought last week?"

Marcus's face froze as he stared blankly at her smug face. But before long, he recovered and said.

"Hm, that could be a problem, but it would also be hard to walk in the rain with heels, would it not?"

Elara let out a small laugh while looking down at her white heels. They are beautiful and covered with small diamonds, but it's not something she particularly wants to get wet.

"It seems we should get home soon for both of our sakes."

Before the family could walk out the door, an old man approached them from behind and called out.

"Marcus, you should have told me that you were going to visit today. I would have prepared your ice cream myself!"

Turning back, Marcus saw an old friend, wearing an apron and holding an umbrella, an older man with wrinkles and gray hair. Marcus turned and approached the man, hugging him.

"Sorry about that, Tanaka, I guess I got caught up in conversation."

Pulling apart, Tanaka handed Marcus the black umbrella while saying.

"It's no problem, but you should get home. It's supposed to get pretty bad tonight."

"Oh, I didn't know that. I guess I was more caught up than I realized. Thank you for the reminder and the umbrella. I will return it to you tomorrow after work."

"Just make sure you bring little Ariel, he's the best business an owner could ask for."

The two men chuckled for a second before it was interrupted by Elara, who was staring outside.

"Darling, we should get going; the rain is starting to pick up."

"Listen to your wife and get your butt home."

Following the Tanaka order, the family, now equipped with an umbrella, huddled together and began walking to their car. Ariel walked between the two adults as they talked while weaving between rushing people.

"How far did you park?"

"Not far, dear, it's just across from your job."

"Hm, that's about a 5-minute walk. Hopefully, there is not a lot of traffic, so we can cross the street quickly."

The three picked up the pace as the rain pelted the city with an increasing amount. Surprisingly, there wasn't much traffic at the intersection, and they quickly found their Nissan GT-R. It didn't take long for them to get in the car and get on the road. However, the weather did not stop their conversation.

"I hope the weather does not cause a power outage because I won't be able to cook dinner."

"Dinner? Is it really that late?"

"Yes, dear, you got off at six, that's two hours later than normal."

"SIX!? I . . I'm sorry, I guess I lost track of time. I mean, there has just been so much to do. There were 6 hero fights this week, and there was a lot of destruction, so we had to do so much repairing."

Elara gave him a concerned look while holding his hand.

"That sounds like a lot. When we get home, I'll help you relax a bit."

Marcus resisted the urge to take his eyes off the road, which now had quite a few cars. Instead of turning his head to look at her, he chose to ask a question.

"What do you plan on making?"

Elara opened her mouth but was quickly interrupted by Ariel.

"Dad, when are we going to get home?"

Marcus looked at the main street they had just turned into. The most noticeable thing is the countless cars stuck in a traffic jam.
