Chapter 3 - School

Going into his room Liam opened a chest where he kept his clothes.

Changing into a shirt and shorts Liam then grabbed his backpack and began to pack it with clothes.

Pants, a coat, gloves, goggles, a mask, and a pair of boots.

He was packing them in the event that Castform gets too bored with the weather, or another Pokemon used a weather changing move.

While he was thinking about it, Liam knew he had to find out which Pokemon was causing the sandstorms.

Meowth didn't know, Castform didn't know, and that's all the Pokemon that visited Liam, at least they were the only friendly ones.

With his bag packed and a mental note to get Meowth a Razz berry, Liam headed out of the house.

He had a nice somewhat new bike that his mom had gotten for him or her to go into the center of the city.

Getting on it, Liam began his way to the school at the middle of the city.

As he biked Liam had to be careful to not go over hollow sections. Due to some mining underground to provide rocks for the walls a small hollow section was left under the city.

Unfortunately, that small hollow section has increased several times over due to Pokemon like Diglet and Onix making that space their home.

Liam could tell when he was going over some hollow patches due to the sound the ground makes when he runs over it with his bike, but he has fallen down before.

That's why he had to get a new bike.

With time and some effort Liam eventually got into the center of the city.

It was by far the most populated place in the city, not because so many people are packed in there, but because people who live on the outer edges of the wall usually have a job that make them go outside the walls leading to not many people living near the walls.

Liam rode by the stalls, one of which were selling razz berries. Happy that he could get a razz berry for Meowth, but realizing he couldn't grab one now unless he wanted to give a crushed berry to the cat.

To get to the school Liam had to cross a bridge across the only river in the city. It was the life blood of the city concreting that it's the only source of fresh water in the city.

Liam had come here once or twice to get water when his mom couldn't, so he knows his way around a very small part of the city.

He also came to the berry juice house that was near the lake and about five miles from the wall. The juice was good and the conversations that happened there were better.

How else is a thirteen-year-old boy supposed to get his knowledge about what kind of pokemon live around?

But that doesn't stop Liam from thinking that he knows the city like the back of his hand. So, he headed to where he thinks the school is.

With that, he ended up at the other side of the lake and ended up right next to the school.

He knew that the school was near the, oh wait, this definitely wasn't the school. The ticking sound of clocks came from the building, and Liam hadn't heard a single tock from any other part of the city.

Looking through a small window Liam could see a man working on a clock, while being surrounding by clocks.

Each clock ticking and tocking at different intervals, and with every clock's hands set to different times. One to five thirty, another the twelve eleven and another set to ten forty-five.

The man looked to the clock he was working on for any hints of its secrets. He knew that the gears of the clock were important to their operation, but he didn't know why, or how someone would go about figuring it out that the gears were important.

As he staired at the inside of the clock he was working on, the worker felt himself being watched. Looking out the window he saw a small kid watching him, before noticing the man looking back which caused the kid to turn away and leave.

Shaking his head the man turned back to the clock, he wondered how smart the ancestors had to be to create something like this.

Eventually Liam found his way over to the school, however Liam actually left early just in case he got lost!

This was a lie, he was very late, Liam could see the teacher beginning to talk to the rest of the class. At least he knew where the Razz berry seller was so he could grab it before he left.

Opening the door Liam heard a loud creek coming from the door, the rest of the people in the room also heard the loud creaking of the door and they turned to the noise.

"Oh," the older lady in the room said looking down at Liam, "I wasn't aware of another student, come now," she said pointing down at the carpet which the rest of the people Liam's age were sitting.

With a silent nod Liam took his seat next to the others. All of them were attentively listening to the lady.

It wasn't a school in the way that Liam knew of. Any information about things like math and science were usually taught by parents, or taught at the collages a few blocks over, but you have to be older, and richer, than Liam was to go to one of those.

The school was mostly to teach kids how not to die. Things like, how to tell if an area has been dug out by rock types, how to tell when a poison type is near enough to kill you, when do I run from a pokemon?

Most things if it wasn't common knowledge to Liam, he learned by living on the outside of the city.

But there definitely somethings that Liam wanted to pay attention to them, for example the poison one.

While it still was an open house that didn't mean that the old lady wasn't going to teach the kids, much to the disappointment of Liam.

And as the teacher continued her lesson on what not to eat, a sandstorm began to rage outside.
