Chapter 1 - Landfill confontation

Year 3054 of the Imperial Calendar.

In the city planet Utopium-042.

A man stood in a dark and shabby room. He has dark hair and goggles on his forehead. His clothes had patches and stiches and he had a blaster on his side.

Klein looked around the shack he called home. An old and beat up work table in the corner with various wires and electronics scattered on it. A futon of questionable quality sitting right next to it. His home was not glamorous or fancy. He was borderline homeless for Mother Void's sake.

Life on Utopium-042 was not at all utopian. Most people on this city planet lived in poverty with only very few getting to actually enjoy the city. And Klein was no exception, he didn't have a lot to his name and spent most of his time looting private landfills for spare parts or discarded gadgets.

Exiting his shack Klein headed for the landfills just as he'd done yesterday and the day before. But for some reason today felt different, like something was going to happen.

As he walked, Klein tried to brush this feeling off. 'Nothing will happen' he thought to himself. 'Today is a regular day. no need for these extra thoughts'.

After 10 minutes or so of walking and contemplating why today felt different Klein reached the landfill. Turning a corner into and alleyway between a huge skyscraper and a tall fence. The light of billboards and neon signs blinding him as he moved toward a hole in the fence.

Today, the goal was to find a high power processor chip for an upcoming project. The odds of finding said chip though, not very high. Klein had been looking fo the part for a month already and he'd seen no sign of it.

'Maybe today is the day i find it' he mused 'That could be why I feel today us special'

After a few hours of looking through trash those thoughts started to die off. "Tonight is a bust too, I guess" Klein mutters as he stands up and gets ready to go home. It was almost day and the guard should start their patrol soon.

Before he could leave however, blinding light suddenly filled the landfill. Spotlights converged on Klein as he prepared to leave and he suddenly heard sirens go off.

'Shit! I've been caught'

Guards start appearing in the landfill, coming from all directions. Suddenly Klein is surrounded by about a dozen guardsmen of the Free Trade Planet Association, the owners of this city.

Standing amongst them is a big man, standing at 6'5", with horns protruding slightly from his head. He was Bjorn, the capitan of the guards, in charge of this area of the city. His head was buzzed and his boday was built like a truck with a sword that looked more like a cluc at his side.

"Alright fellas no need to be hasty" Klein quipped as the guards slowly closed in on him.

"This isn't the time for jokes Klein" a deep voice cuts through the silence.

"Bjorn, you know it's always a pleasure seeing you. But can't you just let this slide please, for the one time?" Klein pled as he raised his hands up.

"Enough!" Bjorn growled as he prepared to charge Klein. "I have no time for your nonsense"

"Too bad" Klein smirked as he threw down a little metal ball he'd been keeping in his sleeve.

Smoke filled the air around Klein and he was completetely obscured. Yelling filled the air as the guards panicked a little. Seeing this Bjorn yelled "Calm down people!! Look closely at the smoke, if you catch any sign of him fire your tasers and neutralize him"

Hearing his words the guards followed his order and focused in on the smoke. They looked any signs of Klein but once the smoke cleared he was nowhere to be found.

Back home Klein gasped for air as he sat at his work table. 'Damn, I'm not built for running'

Reaching into his pocket he felt the other two smoke bombs he had made. 'Thank Mother Void I had these on me. Otherwise who knows how that could've turned out'

Suddenly he heard a knock at the door, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Who's there?" he asks.

"It's me" a deep voice sounds betond the door.

As Klein opens the door he is covered by a mans shadow. Standing there obscured by the light of dawn is Bjorn, the capitan of the guard.

"Can I come in?" He asks politely.

"Of course my friend" Klein replies

Ducking under the door as he comes in, Bjorn looked exhausted. "Gods" he mutters in between sighs.

"Wasn't good huh?" Klein muses

"No, no it wasn't. That report had to have been one of the most idiotic ones I've given since I enlisted"

"What part of me escaping through sheer wit and strategy is idiotic?" Klein questioned

"You call a smoke bomb wit and strategy. You should've seen my superiors when I reported that you got away. Klein you have to more careful from now on." Bjorn pled, his voice becoming heavier as he spoke.

Bjorn and Klein had been friends for a while. Although they had conflict because of Bjorn's position as a capitan in the guard. You see Klein had helped him out a long time ago. Bjorn owed him a debt and that was the true reason he'd been able to escape from punishment throughout the years.

"Don't worry Bjorn I'm almost done with our project. We'll be out of here in no time. I'm just missing that processor chip. Once I find it we'll be ready." Klein reassured him.

They were working on a plan to escape from this city. Klein had been looting landfills for months for the parts he needed to modify and hijack a military vessel, into their prowler ship.

"I just hope that we can do this without having to fight" Bjorn said.

"Well now you jinxed it man. Now we'll end up in a big shootout as we escape this planet" Klein joked. "No need to worry though we'll make it"
