Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 – Dawn of the People’s Path

Dawn broke soft as mist over Valencrest's courtyard. Torches from the night still smoldered at the archways as the early crowd gathered: students in robes, commoners in plain garb, and a scattering of nobles. They waited, hushed, hopeful.

At the center stood Selene, her fox-crest brooch gleaming in the morning glow. Aro and Iris joined her, their presence steady and unwavering. When Selene spoke, the gathered masses leaned in.

"This kingdom belongs to every person within it. Today, I declare a new path—one where power is shared, voices are heard, and opportunity is real."

She unfurled a scroll, voice strong yet warm:

"I hereby introduce scholarships for all common-born talent. Our schools will open their doors. Those with skill will be given a place, regardless of birth."

A murmur spread—hesitant applause turned to cheers. Some nobles shifted, a few scowled, but most faces glowed in the sunlight.

Aro's voice was quiet beside her: "They're ready."

Selene nodded. "We have to build on this."

At her words, a figure detached from the crowd—a person hidden in a cloak, their arm adorned with a black-and-silver fox-sigil pin. With a precise step forward, they bowed and softly spoke:

"We are the Heralds of the Threadless Path. We offer support… and guidance."

A hush crashed over the crowd. The masked figure gloved a hand over their crest.

Aro steadied Selene's elbow; Iris clenched her fists with resolve.

A noble within the ranks called out: "Heralds? Who gave you the right?"

Selene raised her hand for calm. "No one yet. But merit should speak louder than title. We will listen, and decide—together."

Tentative nods followed. The Herald lingered, eyes unreadable, and then slipped back into the crowd as quickly as they had appeared.

The courtyard emptied in murmurs and speculation. Selene offered Aro and Iris small, triumphant grins.

Yet, beneath the morning brightness, thoughts and fears flickered:

Is the Herald a friend—or a new strand of fate?

Do the people truly stand behind her, or will old powers rise in backlash?

Can Aro and Iris guard their bond while serving this new path?

As they walked away, a single silver petal drifted down from the banners above—a reminder that threads are never fully cut.
