Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3

The atmosphere in the VVIP ward upstairs felt as cold as the North Pole. The three people who had just heard the patient's question froze instantly.

It was as if the world stopped spinning at that very second, completely not expecting to get an unexpected response.

The two middle-aged people there were disappointed and sad. The woman could not hold back her tears, crying uncontrollably. Her husband could not hold back his sadness, immediately embracing his life partner in his arms.

Zaki was stunned, still not moving his body at all. His blank gaze locked right on Kalina.

"What did she just say? She doesn't know her parents at all? Seriously!" her mind screamed, in disbelief.

He then moved her body again, trying to focus on the reality that occurred the woman sitting on the hospital bed.

Her strong hand reached out, cupping one of Kalina's cheeks warmly, making the owner flinch. Their gazes met as if something strange was caught, the woman's eyebrows knitted together.

"What is this man? Why is he looking at me like that? Em... surprised? Sad? Or disappointed? This isn't the expression of someone who finds out that someone close to them has amnesia, right?" Kalina's mind was in turmoil.

Just as Kalina's pale lips opened, Zaki snatched them as fast as lightning.

"Thank God, Honey. I'm so relieved that you're okay and conscious, even though... even though you don't remember us?" he said holding back his sadness.

However, in Kalina's view, it seemed forced, not in line with the words he had just said.

"Mom, Dad, we should call Doctor Celin again to make sure of Kanaya's condition," Zaki continued turning to the parents there.

Arum and Airuz nodded in agreement, they were also curious about what was really going on regarding Kalina's condition inside Kanaya's body.

Kalina just smiled awkwardly again, accepting everything that was happening. This was too strange when there were people who cared about her.

"Possibly those parents, this woman's biological father and mother. Considering their attitude, also, the man named Zaki's nickname for them."

"Then, regarding the man himself... did he call this woman Honey? Could he be her lover? No! That's impossible, considering this woman looks so loved by her parents, surely... this man named Zaki-Zaki is her husband, but why do I feel like there's something he's hiding?" Kalina ranted again in her mind.

She couldn't hold back her curiosity after Zaki gave her a look that was the opposite of what he said.

Kalina understood how confused and scared the mistress and master around her were.

As parents, it was not easy to accept the condition of their child after waking up from a coma. Whatever happened, they had to accept it.

Fifteen minutes later, Doctor Celine, who was called Zaki, arrived. The bespectacled woman took Kalina to a special room.

There she was examined again in detail and asked several questions. Doctor Celin couldn't believe the results given.

"So, you don't know who the three of them are at all?" asked Doctor Celin, then.

Kalina immediately shook her head, "not only do you not know, but they are very foreign tome," she screamed in her mind again.

"Okay, the results are out." The doctor turned to the three people standing alertly behind the patient.

"With a heavy heart, I have to tell this to the patient's family."

"The patient has anterograde amnesia, where this amnesia is permanent. Because of serious damage to the brain, due to the impact she experienced. Memories of the past, the patient can no longer know, including the people around her."

The doctor's explanation was like lightning striking, Arum and Airuz could not hold back their sorrow. The mistress cried again hearing the condition of her only daughter.

"How did this happen to our little daughter? Kanaya shouldn't have experienced all this," said Arum, her heart continuing to scream in pain.

"Everything has happened, maybe this is God's best plan for her. You have to be patient, our child still needs her parents too… her husband," Airuz added, glancing at Zaki who also showed a sad and disappointed expression.

Diagnosed with permanent amnesia, Kalina tried to hold back her laughter. She really couldn't hold herself back when she was in that room and wanted to scream as loud as she could and tell them that her body, memories, and everything inside her were not entirely hers.

She was a stranger, not Kanaya as they had called her.

However, Kalina could only swallow it all by herself and try to accept the new destiny that came without warning.

She was currently in a luxury car driving quietly on the toll road.

Many times she had to hold back her amazement when she first sat in a vehicle that could buy half the building where she lived.

She thought that the owner of her new body was a wealthy person.

"Wow, this woman is no joke. She has very caring, loving, and caring parents, and... has a handsome husband who also loves her. How could someone's life be so perfect?"

Kalina sighed, surprising Arum who had not let go of her hand. She turned quickly to her baby, afraid that something would happen.

"What's wrong, honey? Is there something that makes you uncomfortable?" she asked worriedly.

"Oh my God, is this what is called a mother's attention? I don't know how long it's been since I've felt it. No! I've never received attention like this," Kalina babbled to herself.

She shook her head briefly while giving a sweet smile. Arum's hand reached out to gently rub Kalina's reddish cheeks repeatedly.

Comfort and warmth spread to the depths of her soul. Kalina was stunned, staring intently at how the calm eyes full of love were looking at her.

"Don't be afraid, you're not alone. Everything that happens to you is a form of love from God. Believe me, God has prepared something that is best for you."

"Mom, Dad, and Mas Zaki will always be by your side, honey. Even though you don't remember who we are now, rest assured… our love will never change. You are still our pride," Arum said sincerely.

Kalina couldn't hold back her emotion, her lips curled up trying to suppress the feelings that were running around. This was the first time she had felt such straightforward love from a mother.

She lowered her head to hide the tears that pooled in her eyelids. Both hands were in her lap, clenched tightly.

Arum immediately held them tightly again, understanding how chaotic her daughter's feelings were. She pulled Kalina's body and hugged her tightly.

"For now, let me feel this warmth. Kanaya, or whoever the real owner of this body is, I apologize for taking away your extraordinary life." Kalina thought to herself again.

It felt so comfortable and calm when someone hugged her tightly like now, especially from the warm embrace of a mother.

Not only that, Arum rubbed her slender back, channeling calm. The tears that had been held back finally spilled over.

Kalina cried over her cruel life so far and returned Arum's hug no less strongly. Zaki secretly watched them through the rearview mirror above him, the unusual look in his eyes showed his true feelings.
