Chapter 2 - The Stranger

The darkness of the night enveloped the house, the only sound being the soft hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen. Aethon had woken up thirsty and decided to grab a glass of water from the fridge. He padded softly down the passage, trying not to wake anyone.

As he opened the fridge door, the sudden burst of light illuminated the kitchen. Aethon blinked and reached for a glass on the counter. Suddenly, he heard a faint noise coming from the corner of the room. He turned to see a figure slumped against the wall, partially hidden in the shadows.

Aethon's heart skipped a beat as he approached the figure cautiously. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man, beaten and bruised, with cuts and scrapes on his face. The stranger looked up at Aethon with a mixture of desperation and determination in his eyes.

"Please," the stranger whispered, holding out a small, intricately carved wooden pendant on a leather cord. "Take this. Keep it safe. They're after me."

Aethon hesitated, unsure of what to do. But there was something about the stranger's words that resonated with him. He took the pendant, feeling an inexplicable connection to it.

The stranger's eyes locked onto Aethon's, and he said, "Pierce it into your palm. It's the only way to keep it safe. Trust me."

Without thinking, Aethon took the pendant and pressed it into the palm of his hand. A sharp pain shot through him as the wooden point pierced his skin. Aethon felt himself starting to feel lightheaded, and the world around him began to spin.

Everything went dark, and Aethon felt himself falling. He tried to cry out, but his voice was muffled. The last thing he remembered was the feeling of the pendant still lodged in his palm, the pain and the darkness overwhelming him.

When Aethon came to, he was lying in his bed, the morning sunlight streaming through the window. He sat up, rubbing his eyes, wondering if it had all been a dream. He looked down at his palm, expecting to see a mark or a cut, but there was nothing. No sign of the pendant or the piercing.

Max breathed a sigh of relief, thinking it had indeed been just a dream. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and planted his feet firmly on the ground. But as he stood up, he caught a glimpse of something glinting in the morning light.

A small, intricately carved wooden pendant lay on his nightstand, the leather cord tangled beside it. Aethon's heart skipped a beat as he stared at the pendant, his mind racing with questions. Had it been a dream, or was it real? And what did the pendant mean?

Aethon's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his mother calling him for breakfast. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should show her the pendant. But something about it felt private, and he decided to keep it to himself.

As he walked downstairs, Aethon couldn't shake off the feeling that something strange had happened. He felt like he was caught up in a mystery, and the pendant was the key to unlocking it. But he had no idea where to start or what the pendant meant.

Throughout the day, Max found himself glancing at the pendant, wondering about its significance. He felt an inexplicable connection to it, like it was a part of him. But he couldn't explain why.

As the day went on, Aethon began to notice strange occurrences around him. Small things, like a book falling off a shelf or a strange noise in the hallway. He couldn't help but wonder if the pendant was somehow connected to these events.

As the sun began to set, Aethon decided to do some research on the pendant. He typed in some keywords into his search engine, but nothing seemed to match the intricate carvings on the pendant. Feeling frustrated, Aethon decided to call it a night, he hadn't even gotten fully healed from his beating. He wondered if he'd ever uncover the truth about the mysterious pendant.

But as he lay in bed, he couldn't shake off the feeling that the pendant was more than just a simple trinket. It felt like a key to a hidden world, a world that Aethon was slowly beginning to uncover. And he couldn't help but wonder what other secrets the pendant held, and what lay ahead.

The darkness of the night seemed to press in around Aethon, the pendant glowing softly on his nightstand. He felt a sense of anticipation building inside him, like he was on the cusp of something big. And as he drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him and the mysterious pendant.

As the night wore on, Aethon's dreams were filled with strange images and symbols. He saw himself running through a forest, the pendant glowing brightly around his neck. He saw strange creatures lurking in the shadows, their eyes fixed on him. And he saw a figure, tall and imposing, reaching out to him.

Aethon woke up sweating profusely..........
