Becky didn't take long in getting ready for the day, though for that she had to shut the bathroom door, otherwise they would have spent the whole day entangled in bed.
After wearing some professional clothes, Becky went to meet the General Manager named Maric, who handled all the hotels of the Sinclair Family in Neo City.
Since she was here, it was her job to run an audit. It was usually done by her father, but since she was going to be in Neo City for a while, he gave all the properties to her.
Now, the hotel chain belonged to Becky, so she wanted to check up on important stuff. It was also because she had to wait for a day for Arthur to come to Neo City.
Of course, it didn't mean she would just sit around.
She was going through the numerous databases and also files that seemed to stack high enough to make a tower.
By her side, Ruby was standing with her katana ready, her sharp eyes keeping a constant check on the surroundings for any danger.
Maric wanted to sit on one of the chairs, but he didn't dare to after seeing that Ruby was standing. How could someone like him sit while an A-Rank Runemaster was standing?
Sweat dripped from his forehead as Becky went through everything. He knew there were a few cases of embellishments and also situations where they had dealings with the underworld.
He didn't know what Becky's opinion on this would be. As far as he was aware, this young miss of the Sinclair Family was very sharp, cold, and decisive.
If she found fault in his management, losing his job would be the least of his concerns.
Becky stopped at a certain page, making Maric's heart jump in fear. Then, she raised her head to look at him and asked, "How much control do you have over the underworld of Neo City?"
Maric was taken aback as his head automatically dropped down. He dared not meet her eyes and decided to be honest with her.
"I have some decent connections in the underworld, Young Miss. They are important in maintaining the hotel chain in certain ways."
Becky nodded in understanding and said calmly, "But this is still bad for our image. You understand what I'm saying, right?"
Maric dropped to his knees and pleaded, "I did it for the Sinclair Family, Young Miss. I've known the consequences since the day I got into this mess, so I am willing to shoulder all the blame. But I request you to spare my family."
His back was drenched with sweat as he awaited her judgment under her cold gaze.
Becky thought for a second and then said, "Stand up. I will overlook this matter if you choose to directly work under me. Of course, it won't be official, and you'll be stripped of your position as GM."
With a dumbfounded look on his face, Maric stood up. He quickly understood what Becky wanted and sighed in relief. He was also happy, as this was an opportunity he had been waiting for ages.
All prominent families had ties with the underworld, but they never did it directly. There were always middlepersons for these matters who bore the most risk and also enjoyed the best position.
On one hand, they would be the boss of the underworld, and they would also have support from these families, which meant relief from the government side too.
The main problem with this was that as soon as some big problem came up which might implicate the families, they would immediately abandon the middle person and blame everything on them.
Even with all the risks, many wanted this position, and he was no exception—especially since he had a goal to accomplish in the underworld.
This was an opportunity nobody would refuse. Becky Sinclair was the strongest prodigy and had a bright future ahead, so everyone wanted to be associated with her.
And now, he was offered to become her middle person in the underworld. His heart raced with excitement, as he swore to work hard to live up to her expectations.
He slammed his chest and declared, "I hereby swear my loyalty to Becky Sinclair till I die."
"Good! I want you to become the King of the Underworld of Neo City as soon as possible," Becky said. "Also, I have another task for you. An urgent one."
"Anything you command."
"A man named Arthur will enter Neo City today or tomorrow. Maybe he's already in the city," Becky said, leaning back on her chair. "I want you to find him."
She quickly wrote some details about Arthur on a paper and gave it to Maric, who read it with a frown on his face and then turned it.
"Young Miss, it shall be done, but if I may ask, is he carrying any artifacts or maybe has someone powerful behind him?" Maric asked.
From the information, he was sure that Arthur was very weak and didn't really have anything that would attract the attention of someone like the Young Miss.
He would have thought that she was interested in him if he wasn't aware of her hate towards men in general. It was already a surprise that she had chosen him for this operation.
"Just keep an eye on him and don't do anything else," Becky didn't think it was necessary to answer him.
As for why she didn't order to finish him off, it was because she wanted to confirm if Arthur really was evil. She believed the real Becky, but she was still cautious and wanted to confirm everything first.
It was also because she wanted to establish her mind here in this world properly, and that would begin with slaying one of her enemies.
Maric didn't question any further and left the room. He was eager to finish this mission to show his capabilities to the Young Miss.
Back in the room, Ruby looked down at Becky and smiled—something that was reserved for Becky alone. "It was a good decision to enter the underworld like this. But why him?"
Becky twirled around in the chair and smiled at Ruby, "Call it a gut feeling. I know he will do good."
