Chapter 16 - Chapter 14 – The Drums Beneath the Skin

Somewhere Deep Below Giza

Adam lay in the dark.

Not asleep.

Not awake.

Somewhere in between.

His body rested on cool stone, but his mind was drifting—floating above it, beneath it, inside it.

Everything around him pulsed gently, like he was inside a living heart.

Each beat echoed through his bones.

Dum. Dum. Dum.

The Drums.

They weren't in the walls anymore.

They were in him.

Flashes.

Not visions—memories that weren't his.

A girl in Kenya screaming into a mirror as her eyes flickered gold.

A boy in Brazil crouched in a field, hands over his ears, whispering "they're under me."

A teenager in India standing in the rain, barefoot, while a temple behind him burned.

All of them… heard it too.

The same hum. The same rhythm.

The same calling.

Adam's heart started racing. Not out of fear.

Recognition.

"They're like me."

He wasn't alone.

The air shifted around him.

He opened his eyes slowly—wasn't even sure when they had closed—and realized something had changed.

The chamber was glowing.

Symbols on the walls were no longer random—they were moving, rotating like a celestial mechanism. Aligning.

One symbol burned brighter than the rest.

The Scarab.

Adam reached out and touched it—

And the room shattered.

He was standing in a void now.

Black. Endless.

Except for one voice.

Not human.

Not angry.

Not kind.

Just ancient.

"The blood has awakened.

The line remembers.

The child has returned to the Source."

Adam clenched his fists. "Who are you?"

Silence.

Then—hundreds of whispers at once:

"We are the inheritance.

The memory.

The weapon.

The wound."

Adam felt his feet start to sink—as if the black floor beneath him turned to liquid.

But he didn't fall.

He stood.

"I'm not your weapon," he said. "I'm not here to finish what you started."

"You are not here to finish.

You are here to choose."

Then—

A flash of gold.

A hallway.

A face—

His mom.

Sarah.

She was here.

Alive.

Descending.

And something was waiting for her.

Adam's whole body jolted. He gasped—back in the real chamber. On his knees. Sweating.

Mike was at his side in seconds.

"Adam! What happened? You passed out!"

Adam looked at him, eyes wide.

"I saw her," he whispered. "Mom. She's here. Coming for us."

Mike stared.

"Are you sure?"

Adam nodded slowly.

"And something down here knows it."
