Chapter 49 : A Breath return
Doctors rushed to her aid as they arrived. Luca didn't leave her side even once. He held her hand through the night, whispering to her, his eyes refusing to close. Nurses brought him coffee, but he barely touched it.
The doctor came out after a few hours. "She's stable. The bullet grazed the side of her head and ear. It's a miracle she's alive."
Luca finally breathed. He leaned back against the wall and broke down. Relief. Pain. Love.
Janet stayed in the hospital for the next few days. Luca stayed too, sleeping on the visitor couch in her room, watching over her every moment. She was safe, alive, and finally free from Dmitri.
