Chapter 47: The Fall of a Monster
Police grabbed Dmitri by both arms, dragging him away from Janet's body as he kicked and screamed. "No! I loved her! I wanted her! Let me go!" he shouted.
"You've been under surveillance for months," a cop snarled. "Sexual harassment. Kidnapping. Human trafficking. Attempted murder. You're done."
"No! No, this wasn't supposed to happen!" Dmitri howled, thrashing against the officers.
The cuffs clamped around his wrists. He was shoved toward the door, his screams echoing down the marble halls of the mansion that once made him feel untouchable.
Luca still hadn't moved.
He was on his knees, inches from Janet, blood staining his white shirt as he clutched her to his chest. "Janet… please… wake up," he whispered. His voice cracked.
"I was supposed to protect you… I failed," he cried. His hands trembled as he touched her face, brushing blood-soaked strands of hair from her eyes. His tears fell on her cheeks, mixing with the crimson.
The sirens outside wailed.
The monster had fallen. The predator was behind bars.
But Luca didn't care.
Because in that moment, all he saw was the woman he loved… broken in his arms.
