She picked up the book and stared at the cover. 'Study of Human History,' she read aloud before flipping it open. A few pages in, her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep.
Hours later, Sebastian's eyes flickered open as he slowly sat up on the couch. His gaze moved to the bed and he saw a sleeping figure on it with a book on her face. "Silly girl." He whispered with a chuckle.
He stood up from the couch and walked to her, he removed the book from her face and dropped it on the table then gently carried her to the centre of the bed and tucked her properly with a blanket.
He stared down at her, his eyes trailed across her face, memorising every single feature. Her small eyes, hazel nut hair, pale rough skin due to all the suffering she has endured and plum pink lips. She looked so peaceful in her slumber and he didn't know when a smile crept up his lips.
What are you doing to me... He whispered, his gaze not leaving her.
He wondered what was wrong with Boax, he hadn't been this interested with someone for a long time and the last time he did, it didn't end well.
He stood up from the bed and walked to the balcony. It was nighttime now and the sky looked especially beautiful tonight. The moon was so full and bright and the sky was littered with stars, the wind was cold and gentle and the city was some what peaceful, as the people had already retired for the day.
He gazed at the stars and exhaled. His mind reeling back to Seraph.
He couldn't love her right? Not after what love and did to him in the past. He had sworn that he would never give another woman a chance to his heart, but now here he was—swooning over a girl he met few days ago.
He sighed, and ruffled his hair. It was just lust. Just cravings that he needed to satisfy. He was in the city so he would probably just find a distraction. Someone to fill the void — nothing complicated, nothing real.
He heard the sound of sheets ruffling and he turned back to see Seraph. She was up and her eyes were on him. "When did you wake up?" He asked. "Just now." She answered and her gaze moved to the table. "You didn't eat the salad?" She asked with a frown.
"It's cold and stale. I can't eat that." He replied, walking back into the room. "But still. You can't just waste food like that." She frowned, touching the salad with her spoon, checking if it was still edible.
"I'm sorry but I can't eat cold salad, I'll just order a new one."
"But that's wastage and it's not right."she called him out and he rolled his eyes.
"Are you being serious right now? I said it's fine. I paid for the food so it's my choice to waste it." His tone came off cold and she it made her shiver.
When she lived with her mother. They barely had food on their table, but everytime her mother would cook, she would eat and appreciate every single thing. So she was quite hurt that he would waste food that way. Yes, he had the money but wasting food is wrong.
"I didn't know that." She replied shortly and picked the book, storming out of the room. He instantly regretted his words, he didn't mean to sound so rude.
He stared back at the salad, he didn't know she had kept some food for him, he had ordered them for her because he knew how hungry she was. He ran after her.
"Seraph! Seraph wait." He called, but she wasn't in the hallway.
Shoot, where was she? He blocked an incoming waitress almost bumping into her. "Sorry." He apologised. "Um have you seen a short girl with hazelnut hair, blue eyes and light skin?" He asked and the woman nodded.
"Oh, yes. I saw her go down the hallway. She probably was going to the general balcony." She said and Sebastian thanked her and ran in the direction.
He reached the balcony door and pushed it open, to see Seraph. Thank goodness.
"I..I thought you left." He rasped, catching his breath. She faced him with her brows furrowed. "What are you doing here? I thought you wanted to order a new bowl of salad." She said calmly and he blinked, confused.
Wasn't she the one who was angry some minutes ago?
"Um, I thought you were upset?"
Upset? She?
No she wasn't, she didn't have the right to be, it was his money and he could spend it the way he liked, it's not like they were anything special anyways.
"No, I'm not upset. I was just flustered by the way you yelled and felt that you needed space so I came out here to get some fresh air while I read the book." She explained and he exhaled.
He thought he had upset her.
"I'm fine, I'm sorry for yelling at you. I didn't mean to." He apologised and she nodded going back to her book.
He had the money, sure. But it still hurt. That he would waste it that way when they're people like her. Who couldn't even afford a meal.
She was still upset and he could tell. "Come on, you don't have to be upset." He walked closer to her. "I said I was sorry." He whispered and she could feel his hot breath on her ear. It was then she realised how close he was to her.
She turned around and proved her suspicions—he was right behind her with barely any space between them. "Hey...back off." She said flustered and he chuckled at her reaction.
She badly wanted to be mad at him, she wanted to make him fell bad for what he did but she couldn't and she didn't know why.
"Look, now you're all red." He laughed and she gritted her teeth. "Whatever." She sneered and walked away.
"Hey wait up." He called after her, barely containing his laughter.
They reached the room and saw that the salad bowl was already cleaned up and the bed was properly made. Seraph threw herself on the bed with a groan.
"Great! Now I can't sleep. What am I going to do the whole night—" She sighed, boredom etched in her voice.
"Read that entire book." He said and her eyes widened. "It's 400 pages long, how do you expect me to finish it tonight?" She snapped.
"I don't know but you have to read it, you need it if you're going to effectively live in this world." He explained and she groaned from frustration.
Yes, she loved reading books but this was boring. She mostly read novels and romances this was just about culture and history.
"That's not all, I also ordered for another book so, you'll have to read them both tonight."
She rolled her eyes. "So what will you be doing the entire night?"
"I'll probably be scheming, we need to get our plans fleshed out and be prepared for anything tomorrow." He said as he rumaged through his bag.
The plan hasn't even started and she was already exhausted but she couldn't wait for tomorrow so she would finally meet the great prince Xavier.
