Chapter 31 - Sword King vs. Saint

The Black Prince of Divine Speed once again dissipated into lightning, elegantly and nimbly avoiding the slash from behind. At that moment, the golden-haired youth strode into the banquet hall he had just cleaved in two.

"Hahahaha, Alexander! You really love to put on a show. If I were you, I wouldn't think so much. If it's something I want, I'll just take it with my sword! Instead of pulling all this nonsensical stuff behind the scenes!"

There were only a few people in the world with such a distinctive voice. The King of Swords, Salvatore Doni, had also stepped onto this stage.

"Sir Salvatore, you are now the Alliance Leader of the Southern European magical societies. You should understand that some words carry a corresponding responsibility when spoken." Alexander Gascoigne, having reformed into his human shape from the coalesced lightning, looked at the youth before him with some resignation.

In his perception, all Godslayers besides himself were trouble. But this King of Swords was practically a bomb that could go off at any moment. He knew from the moment Doni had suddenly appeared at the British Library last year, swinging his sword without a word and saying he wanted to befriend him through the blade, that he and this guy would never get along.

At the same time, the moment he saw the King of Swords, he knew his own plan was no longer feasible. This was Italy; all of Southern Europe was the King of Swords' territory. On this land, the King of Swords could be said to have autonomous jurisdiction. If he expressed malice or hostility, the magicians below him might misinterpret it, leading to unnecessary trouble... Because this was a matter between kings, any decision had to be considered carefully.

"Actually, you have another option," Seiya said suddenly.

Alexander turned his head, looking at this young compatriot. Though young, and holding only one Authority, his Godslayer's combat physique was soaring, which meant his opponent was an extremely powerful warrior.

"Why not challenge me? Since we're in the latter half of the banquet anyway, adding an entertaining segment wouldn't be a bad idea." Seiya crossed his arms, looking at this senior with great interest. "I heard at the party just now that Your Excellency recently succeeded in a challenge against the two-tailed mermaid from European legend, the half-human, half-snake goddess Melusine. I'm also very curious what power you obtained from this goddess."

Challenge Seiya. Alexander raised an eyebrow at this very tempting proposal. But after considering the current situation, he still refused. His original plan was to forcibly take his target away with divine speed. Now that things had come to this, there was no longer any need to stay here.

"You should know that I detest any unnecessary disputes." Alexander pushed up his glasses. "It seems today is not the day. I can only warn you all, this Beheader is no saint. As for that Gorgon's Stone, it is trouble in itself. It will attract an ancient earth mother goddess. Moreover, it was unearthed in the King of Swords' territory. Its true ownership is yet to be determined. I will not be joining in this excitement."

With that, his figure vanished in a flash of lightning. This Godslayer, who had arrived with a flash of lightning and the roar of thunder like a descending angel, seemed to make a rather anticlimactic departure.

"He's just that kind of overly calculating fellow. The least Godslayer-like Godslayer. He never likes to fight head-on. If he senses there's no profit to be made, he'll give up," Doni said, pursing his lips as he watched the lightning disappear on the horizon. But his lips immediately curled upwards as he looked at the Gorgon's Stone held in Salome's hands.

At this moment, everyone in the hall thought the two of them would come into conflict over this divine artifact. The Black Prince of Divine Speed had even laid a trap for his two compatriots before he left. But it was effective precisely because what he said was the truth.

From a legal standpoint, the ownership of this divine artifact should belong to the King of Swords, Doni.

But the problem was, a Godslayer themselves is the greatest law.

"You want this thing too?" At this moment, Seiya finally took the sealed Gorgon's Stone from Salome's hands into his own. The Gorgon's Stone was the symbol of a slighted goddess, the wisdom of the long-lost Earth Mother, a signpost to darkness.

Just as Alexander had said, this divine artifact, which was of little use to a Godslayer themselves, was trouble. Because it would attract an extremely ancient earth mother goddess, a powerful one even among the Heretic Gods. For Alexander, who liked to design counterattacks against his enemies and achieve victory with absolute certainty, it was trouble.

But for some Godslayers, it was a coveted secret treasure. Among them were the old wolf king, Marquis Voban, and the King of Swords before him, Doni. To fight to the death with a fated enemy, to grow in battle, whether it be death or victory—they could accept it all.

"Have you fully recovered your magical power?" Seiya suddenly asked a completely unrelated question.

But the King of Swords, Doni, smiled with understanding. "If it's for a fight, it's at a level where it won't be a hindrance."

At this point, no more words were needed. The mere clash of their gazes created a phenomenon where light itself seemed to bend.

"Speaking of which, we still have an unfinished battle. Let's use the ownership of this divine artifact as the conclusion to our promise."

At this moment, the esteemed guests at the banquet finally showed looks of excitement. To witness a battle between two Godslayers was almost equivalent to witnessing a myth with their own eyes. It would be of great help to their research in magic and their understanding of their own cultivation systems.

However, most of the people present were inclined to believe that the King of Swords, Doni, would win. After all, this young Saint was rumored to have forcibly slain the Eastern war god with his own strength, much like the Martial Empress Luo Hao of the Eastern Continent.

But Doni, as the King of Swords, was also a skilled warrior and held as many as four Authorities. His core Silver Arm had already been developed to a point that even Marquis Voban had praised. How could the newborn king, Seiya, possibly win?

Seiya didn't know what these subordinates and esteemed guests were thinking, and neither did Doni.

The King of Swords, Doni, didn't care about the ownership of the precious divine artifact. But to be able to fight Seiya, he felt the muscles in his back growing tighter and tighter, his body and limbs filling with power. He had experienced this feeling several times since defeating the Celtic God King Nuada. This was the physique of a Godslayer, the change that occurred in the body when facing an enemy worthy of being a rival.

"When?" Doni asked one last question.

"Right now. Follow me." Seiya glanced at him, then turned and shot off into the distance.

His figure was so nimble, yet from the very start, he tore through sound, broke the sonic barrier, and soared into the sky.
