Sharon laid with me for a while. After a long time of sobbing, we just stayed on the bed embracing each other. There was silence in the room. I could only wonder how school was going. I wasn't able to see Matthew the other night, would he be upset? Even if he does, I really don't care, all this was Mark's fault. After thinking about school, my thoughts wondered how I would be able to find Danny. Can I get any news about him in the house? If I could, I would do it secretly and not get Sharon involved. After all, my parents caused it.
But what did my parents owe? Was it really worth all these, or Veronica was just a wicked soul. Of course, she is a wicked soul. The truth is, I also have to find out the truth behind their debt. Just then Sharon spoke up.
"I saw a new uniform in your wardrobe, they changed your school?" Sharon asked.
"Yes, I attend Catherine's school now." I replied.
"Catherine's school? I hope she doesn't treat you badly there?" Sharon asked.
"She treats me exactly the way she does at home, but I'm used to it anyways." I said.
"Things are just so hard for you Lucy." Sharon said sadly.
"I know, but the school is quite alright. I have a friend, Matthew." I said with an assuring smile to make Sharon feel better.
"I wanted to check on him on Friday night, I heard he was beaten by a dog. But Catherine misunderstood. She thought I was going to meet the boy she likes, Mark. She saw Mark talking to me so she got angry." I explained.
"How cruel, just because of jealousy." Sharon said.
"Listen to me Lucy, if you have to be in school without friends just not to cross Catherine, do it. I don't want her torturing you for pointless things." Sharon said, concerned.
"Don't worry Sharon, I know exactly what to do when I get back to school." I said.
"I wanted to get you something for your birthday but when I got the call about you, I used the money to get things to treat your wounds." Sharon explained.
"It's fine, waking up to see you was already the best thing this time." I said "I just wished you could stay here with me for a while, at least, until I can walk."
"About that, I know they might come to forcefully get you on your feet, so I brought crutches to help you." Sharon said.
"But you cannot go to school until your legs have completely healed."
"Alright." I said.
"By the way Sharon, how old was your son when he was taken away?" I asked.
"He was ten years old then. Why do you ask?" Sharon answered.
"Just wanted to know. So he's all grown up now." I asked.
"Yes, recently he's starting to sound like his late father." Sharon said with a faint smile.
But I could only wonder why he hadn't tried running away from there. "Hasn't he attempted escaping?" I asked.
"Not when your life's on the line. He's planning but quietly so you won't bear any consequences when he does escape." Sharon said.
After Sharon and I talked for a little while, the door flew right open and Veronica walked in.
"She's awake now, I think it's time for you to leave." Veronica said to Sharon.
"I'd be on my way then." Sharon said as she got up to leave. "Take care of yourself Lucy," She said to me.
"Veronica please…" Sharon tried to say but Veronica lifted her hands to silence her.
"Don't worry, she won't die just yet." She said wickedly, "Look, I even got her a wheelchair so she will be able to move around." She pointed to the wheelchair just outside my room.
Sharon brought in the wheelchair and placed it beside my bed. She took her last glance at me and then departed.
I looked at Veronica in anger, what a wicked woman she was.
Once Sharon had left, Veronica spoke up. "There'll be a test in school next week, Monday precisely. You can't miss it."
I knew it. She wouldn't mind if I couldn't get up for days, so there was a reason she got a wheelchair and she finally said it.
"Make sure you prepare Catherine for it as you prepare." Veronica said as she turned around and left the room.
There was no way I was getting on that wheelchair. I had to be able to use the crutches. I tried to get up from the bed, only to land on the floor. My legs were numb. After several attempts, I managed to get myself back on the bed.
It might take days before I could walk again, but I was determined to be able to get on my
feet before Monday. I could use the crutches to support myself.
